Coastal Shingle Style on St. Andrew Bay
Private Residence / Panama City Beach, Florida
Architect: Eric Watson
Builder: McIntosh-Myers Construction
For this lovely Coastal Shingle–style home, E. F. San Juan supplied Loewen impact-rated windows and doors, E. F. San Juan Invincia® impact-rated custom mahogany entry doors, exterior board-and-batten siding, exterior shingles, and exterior trim and millwork. We also supplied all the interior doors, stair parts, paneling, mouldings, and millwork.
Challenges:
At over 10,000 square feet, the sheer size of this home—coupled with the extensive amount of materials we produced and provided—made for a great scheduling challenge. Another significant challenge for the E. F. San Juan team was the homeowner’s desire for an electronic locking system on numerous Invincia® doors we custom manufactured for the home. This was a first-time request for us, but a challenge we gladly accepted!
Solution:
We worked closely with the builder, Cliff Myers of McIntosh-Myers Construction, as well as the architect, Eric Watson, to ensure the timeliness of decisions as they related to the home’s critical production timeline. We also worked closely with our design engineer and the home’s engineer of record, Allen Barnes of Apex Engineering Group, to provide a solution that allowed for an electronic lock on our custom Invincia® mahogany doors. The completed home is a stunning example of coastal architecture that is as safe and secure as it is beautiful.

Find the right local pro for your project

Cowbell Designs was hired by Legacy Property Investors to rework this Leawood residence as a full-house renovation, originally including a new upper level, an expanded front entry, and a complete interior renovation down to the studs.
As the project developed, the design was reconsidered against comparable homes in the surrounding neighborhood. The revised approach eliminated the proposed upper level—which had included two additional bedrooms, a bathroom, storage, and a secondary gathering area—and removed the planned front porch extension. The final design focused instead on making the existing house work harder through a disciplined renovation of the current footprint.
The completed home received updated exterior detailing, a redesigned entry, refreshed living spaces, and a more cohesive modern character throughout. Just over a year after the renovation was completed, the property was brought to market and began receiving interest immediately. An offer was accepted after only two days on the market.
The project is a good example of how residential design can evolve when architecture, neighborhood context, market positioning, and construction realities are considered together rather than in isolation.

The client decided to reface her kitchen cabinets rather than paint or replace them. The sadly outdated Oak cabinets had a green stain which was very outdated. Changes made to the existing cabinets prior to the refacing included:
• Adding a new cabinet over the fridge (the old one was long since removed as a new fridge was too tall
• Eliminating the range fan hood cover to allow for a new microwave/fan combination and a new cabinet overhead
• Modifying the existing microwave cabinet to now accept two full height doors
• Adding a new upper cabinet to the right of this, in matching dimensions
• Adding a new base cabinet below this new upper (right of the dishwasher), which includes a small cutlery drawer and two tall pot drawers. The new drawers are full extension and feature Blum SoftClose technology
• Installing two new tall pot drawers to each of the base cabinets to the right and left of the range
For the cabinets, Alder in a Golden Maple stain was used for the cabinet refacing, which included “plant-on” panels everywhere. A “Raised Panel” Shaker style of door and pot drawer was used with slab fronts chosen for the smaller cutlery drawers throughout.
A new 3 ½” crown molding was added to the upper cabinets. Blum SoftClose hinges were used for all door closures. New Richelieu Knobs and handles in a brushed satin finish were chosen to complete this warm and inviting transformation.
This client is EXTREMELY HAPPY with this transformation, and the good news – this price was about half of the cost of replacing the existing cabinets with ‘all new’.
