Ulrich Designer: Tom Santarsiero Photography by Peter Rymwid This is a master bath with subtle sophistication and understated elegance. The cabinets were custom designed by Tom, with straight, simple lines, and custom built by Draper DBS of walnut, with a deep, rich brown finish. The richness of the dark cabinetry juxtaposed with the elegance of the white carrara marble on the countertop, wall and floors contributes to the room's sophistication. Ample storage is found in the large vanity and an armoire style cabinet, designed to mimic a free-standing furniture piece, that is positioned behind the door. Architectural beams placed across the vaulted ceiling bring a sense of scale to the room and invite natural light in through the skylight.

Repurposed beams, matching the home's original timber frame, and a tongue and groove ceiling add texture and a rustic aesthetic to the remodeled greeting room. These details draw visitors' attention upward, and the vaulted ceiling makes the room feel spacious. It also has a rebuilt gas fireplace and existing slate floor. The deep seated sofas are vintage Baker which have been reupholstered in a rich green fabric. The English arms and bench seat cushions filled with down and feather allow for extremely comfortable seating. The glass top coffee table with silver tray and crystal bring sparkle to the room. A service hallway wall displays ancestral portraits.

This 5-story 1860’s Brooklyn townhouse features Zola’s triple-glazed Thermo Clad windows and doors in pine. Finding high performance windows that were large and quality-crafted was an important aspect of combining the passive house standard with the original intent of a top-notch design and tasteful renovation of the historic home. Zola’s Thermo Clad windows and door line fit the bill. The home is extremely comfortable and energy-efficient. According to Laura Mackall, they did not turn the heat on all winter, and the inside temperatures stayed at around 70 degrees inspite of record-low temperatures in New York City this past winter. Designed by Gina McMurtrey This bedroom was beige and bland. Beige walls, beige carpet, beige bedding. The room needed some life, yet be a space where this busy single mother and Urgent Care physician could get some much needed rest and relaxation. A deep, grey-purple on the walls set the stage, and fabrics in variants of heathered purple, plum, pinks and roses was chosen for the bedding. Bright, mustard yellow added some excitement to the muted tones. The custom bedding creates an environment of luxury as well as extreme comfort. The two swivel chairs were updated with heathered purple velvet seat cushions piped in mustard yellow. The carpet was replaced with wood-look luxury vinyl plank—a must for families with kids and dogs. Because the client works many nights, being able to sleep during the day is a must. The ho-hum white blinds were replaced with floor to ceiling blackout drapery in embroidered linen on contemporary traverse rods. Her existing furniture, large and heavy and dark-stained, was painted white with a grey stain and distressed heavily. This gave the furniture new life as shabby chic! Additional lighting, updated fixtures, and carefully curated accessories round out this vibrant yet soothing space.

The Haley 110 uses all high performance foam with no cotton, but rather a poly-dacron blend, making the mattress much lighter. This futon is great to use on futon frames as a primary sofa or bed. For a premium high performance foam futon mattress, this is a great choice for daily sitting or sleeping, opening and closing your frame daily. This mattress simply will not bottom out and will retain it's density for at least 10 years. It's extremely comfortable and is considered a medium firm futon. It will simulate a sofa cushion feel unlike the cotton futons which tend to get harder over time. If you are using this mattress on a futon frame, it is highly recommended that the frame be of quality wood with thicker arms. The arms weight down the body of the frame facilitating the conversion from bed to sofa. If you plan on putting this on a futon frame that does not have arm rests, it will be better to get the Stratsophere 6" mattress by Otis instead.
