A Scottish crest badge is a heraldic badge worn to show allegiance to an individual or membership in a specific Scottish clan. Crest badges are commonly worn by members of Scottish clans. Crest badges consist of a crest and a motto/slogan. These badges usually consist of elements from the clan chief’s coat of arms. For example, the Wallace clan crest is an image of a dexter arm in armor with sword in hand and has a motto translating to “for liberty”.

This family crest stained glass panel was created for our clients that had lived in their home in Salt Lake City for a very long time. Several generations of their family had grown up in the home and it was continually passed down in ownership throughout hundreds of years, so naturally it was an important part of their lives. They were looking for a piece of art for their home that would be meaningful to their family, especially their children who would inherit the home after their passing. That’s why they decided on this family crest stained glass panel. Family crests have been used for hundreds of years as a way of showing loyalty to one’s clan. They are often designed with images and symbols that are representative of the family’s value and identity.

Our clients were looking for a unique work of art to add to their home. Their family had lived in the house for several generations so the space was very important to them. So we suggested a family crest stained glass panel. We worked closely with them to create a design that highlighted the history and values of their family. This colorful installation now serves as a unique focal point and conversation piece for their home.

The design of this panel was created to celebrate the ancestral history of our client’s family line, the Mackenzie clan. At the top of the panel, you can see the words “Luceo non uro,” the official motto of the Mackenzie clan. It means “I burn, not shine,” a powerful message for this unique heirloom that will be in their family for several generations. Even if future family members decide to sell the home in the future, they can have the panel removed and installed in their new home, taking a piece of their history with them wherever they go.
