Instead of purchasing a second home, the homeowners decided to create a vacation destination right in their own yard. When the project was finished, the family had a whole new world just outside their door.
Three sitting areas, dining spaces, and lounging areas under the decks. An outdoor kitchen, hot tub, and fountain. There is no reason for this family to travel to relax and get away from it all. The outdoor “rooms” were created to provide intimate retreats for each of the family members, at every stage of their lives. The outdoor kitchen was designed for entertaining, as was the hot tub. The cozy sitting areas provide ideal spots for reading a book, or sharing a glass of wine. The fountain’s stuccoed brick veneer is graced with handmade brass flutes that fill the garden with the soothing sounds of water. No travel required.

A vast, previously unlivable yard was transformed by more than just landscape design, but by a relationship. What resulted were lush, deeply personal spaces genuinely reflecting the family who dwells in them.
In many ways, this project is ongoing, as the client has worked with Father Nature for several years and continues to do so. During the process, a strong bond has grown between the homeowner and designer, making each additional project even more rewarding for the designer and life-enhancing for the family. From meandering paths, to a landscaped understory, to new patios featuring vintage found objects from around the world, the client-designer collaboration yields spectacular and sometimes surprising results. Such as the the custom-designed table in the dining area; the fountain, which was made in France by Italian craftsmen; and the edible terrace garden featuring herbs, berries, apples, and more. Wonder what they will create next?

This family treehouse can be used year round for a variety of activities. The upper deck, with stunning views, is perfect for summer picnics, while the side deck is more suited for a quiet spot to read or relax. The interior has a couch for napping, a desk for writing and working, a kitchenette and small dining area. The initial inspiration for the room was a cozy spot for hosting lunch and dinner parties... in a unique & rustic setting.

There is perhaps nothing more charming than an elegant old home in historic southern neighborhood. Our mission was to make this one modern-day livable while keeping the home's historic personality.
It was in many ways a blank slate, as it was being completely renovated. It was small inside, but instead of adding indoor space, the client wanted outdoor spaces where he could live, relax, and entertain. The design played off the old world limestone and included connecting the garage to the home by creating a covered living area. Limestone walls and an Alabama blue fireplace gives the space structure while the reflecting pool and gravel patio added a subtle touch of glamor. The boxwoods create clean lines, while the hydrangeas contrasted those with structured chaos. The entry courtyard and front porch offer additional spots where the client unwinds at the end of the day in his lush, personal urban oasis.
