Dining room - country dining room idea in Phoenix

Mid-century modern open concept family room photo in Kansas City with white walls and no tv

This spacious West Chester kitchen features Fabuwood cabinetry with Galaxy style doors in linen. The counter tops are Colonial White, and the back splash is Ocean Sand Dollar 3”x9” subway tile. This duel island kitchen features modern amenities such as state of the art stainless appliances, (including a microwave drawer) and cabinetry with soft close drawers and doors. Previously, the kitchen was small, dark, closed in, and not very functional. We realized we could make an awesome space to share with family and friends by removing a 13 foot partition wall separating the kitchen from a lightly used dining/living area. The result was spectacular! The new kitchen extends all the way to the outside wall where we created a custom bench under the large window for a cozy cat nap, or a back seat cook. While we were at it, we replaced the flooring throughout with sawmill Oak engineered wood. We thought of everything for this young family- dimmable LED under cabinet lights and recessed lighting add to the versatility of this massive space, while the elegant hanging pendants add interest and warmth to this bright and airy kitchen! No Doubt, a clean, classic look that will last and last.

The new floor plan offered more privacy for the water closet and cozier area for the round tub. A more spacious shower was created by shrinking the floor plan - by bringing the wall of the former living room entry into the bathroom it created a deeper shower space and the additional depth behind the wall offered deep towel storage. A living plant wall thrives and enjoys the humidity each time the shower is used. An oak wood wall gives a natural ambiance for a relaxing, nature inspired bathroom experience.

Inspiration for a kitchen remodel in Miami

These Excelsior homeowners bought this property primarily for the lakeshore view. All was well until they realized that the floor plan didn’t leave adequate room for a larger kitchen remodel and a dining room. Their first attempt to design a large enough dining addition with another remodeler failed. So, they lived in frustration without the dining room view for years. Fortunately, for all of us, their next-door neighbors had just finished a deck/sauna remodel with Murphy Bros. and gladly made the referral to us. Now they have a 9 x 12 foot dining room addition, with an 8 x 12 foot deck extension off the dining room, all seamlessly integrated into their existing structure. To stay within budget, we re-used the decking to extend the deck off the new addition. We also designed a slanted pergola over the existing deck for added visual interest.

Not only did we overhaul both the main and second levels, but we actually added square footage when we filled in a double-story volume to create an additional second floor bedroom (which in this case, will actually function as a home office). We also moved walls around on both the main level to open up the living/dining kitchen area, create a more functional powder room, and bring in more natural light at the entry. Upstairs, we altered the layout to accommodate two more spacious and modernized bathrooms, as well as larger bedrooms, one complete with a new walk-in-closet and one with a beautiful window seat built-in. This client and I connected right away – she was looking to update her '90s home with a laid-back, fresh, transitional approach. As we got into the finish selections, we realized that our picks were taking us in a bit of a modern farmhouse direction, so we went with it, and am I ever glad we did! I love the new wide-plank distressed hardwood throughout and the new shaker-style built-ins in the kitchen and bathrooms. I custom designed the fireplace mantle and window seat to coordinate with the craftsman 3-panel doors, and we worked with the stair manufacturer to come up with a handrail, spindle and newel post design that was the perfect combination of traditional and modern. The 2-tone stair risers and treads perfectly accomplished the look we were going for!
