The proposal analyzes the site as a series of existing flows or “routes” across the landscape. The negotiation of both constructed and natural systems establishes the logic of the site plan and the orientation and organization of the new home. Conceptually, the project becomes a highly choreographed knot at the center of these routes, drawing strands in, engaging them with others, and propelling them back out again. The project’s intent is to capture and harness the physical and ephemeral sense of these latent natural movements as a way to promote in the architecture the wanderlust the surrounding landscape inspires. At heart, the client’s initial family agenda--a home as antidote to the city and basecamp for exploration--establishes the ethos and design objectives of the work. Photography - Bruce Damonte

Kate worked closely with IKD’s design team to make the design process go smoothly. She explains: “Most designers don’t work with IKEA products, so it was a challenge to find someone who could help me pick the right IKEA SKUs, etc. After reading the reviews and blog posts from IKD, and after finding out the price, I figured it was worth a shot.” The original design submitted to IKD had the oven(s)/microwave in a place that would not have worked, so IKD designer Paulina sent over two initial designs — one which showed how the proposed layout wasn’t possible, and another with their proposed solution. “I would never have noticed the issue with my proposed design. Paulina’s proposal was great. She incorporated a drawer microwave into the island, which solved the issue and allowed us to keep the double-oven,” Kate says.

“Green Mountain Builders just completed a renovation of the first floor in our home in Bonita Bay. This included the entire kitchen, dinning room, living room, master bedroom and bathrooms. The initial proposal was very professional. It was easy to understand what the cost would be for the entire project. The proposal was presented by Tony Persichilli, Owner of Green Mountain. The project was completed on time and was well supervised. We could not be happier with the completed project and the quality of work. Thanks Green Mountain for a job well done.”
