Our design intent here was to create a home that felt harmonious and luxurious, yet livable and inviting. This home was refurbished with only the finest finishes and custom design details throughout. We hand selected decor items, designed furniture pieces to suit this home and commissioned an artist to provide us with the perfect art pieces to compliment.

A modern home with an eclectic mix My clients in this space were divided. They were split by competing aesthetics. There were Vietnamese art pieces with modern motifs and bold colours mixed with hand-crafted rustic tables and antique Canadiana. I quickly identified a lack of cohesion and an uncomfortable conversation area as the primary issues that were causing my clients stress. A change was in order. We partitioned their large connected dining room, living and entryway areas using the existing furniture and floor covering. We were able to create several distinct and cohesive areas that each brought out the best of their contents. Each grouping now seemed natural and harmonious. Smooth international contemporary style and rustic heritage pieces now coexisted in the same space without causing my clients decorating headaches. To organize future projects and to summarize personalized decorating tips, Redecorating Vancouver provided them with a written Design Plan at the conclusion of the consultation. Family is important to me. I recognize that items in my clients' homes have unseen significance. In this instance, I was able to gather items to create a grand-parents nook to honour the couple's family. We took advantage of an heirloom antique radio that belonged to the client's grandfather and a meaningful handmade table. It is both pleasing to the eye and a daily reminder to the couple of who really matters in a home: the family that lives in it.

Description: The Plane Cloud is a decorative pendant lamp shaped by the geometric play of 12 identical curls of steam-bent wood - reminiscent of the shaving curls off a well tuned plane. Recognition: The Plane Cloud launched in January 2014 at the Toronto Interior Design Show. It was recognized as one of the top design finds of the show by Sarah Richardson, Blog TO, Livewithculture.ca and GalerieCO of Montreal. It has since been featured in countless design magazines and blogs internationally. Distribution: It is available for purchase at the Storyboard Furniture shop, and Lighting Nelson and Garret in Toronto. We are in talks with retail locations across Canada. Materials: The steam bent strips of wood are salvaged from Toronto’s urban forest. A variety of wood species are used based on availability and suitability. One side of the curl is finished with a Scandinavian traditional soap finish. The other side is coloured with liquitex professional colour fast spray paint, which is available in close to 100 colours. Our production models have white spun metal fittings, 8’ of white wire and a ceiling plate. All lamps are ESA certified.

I was brought in during the demo phase of the build out to work with the building committee on the overall aesthetic which included space planning, finishes, fixtures, furniture and lighting throughout the space. The kitchen area has two cooking stations, two sinks and tons of prep area, as well as an eat-in bar. The wet bar is located near the lounge area and the dining area, with high top cafe style tables, can also be used for overflow at the lounge. The cafe tables can be lined up together to create one long dramatic dining table when needed for events. This all lends itself to the space being quite versatile, which works well for the various events hosted at the lodge.

This home was built in 2009. The construction of the cabinets is top quality. My client aske for an update with less remodeling. This was achieved with new white satin lacquer refinishing and beautiful book matched honed and distressed marble counters. Lead designer and owner Lance Griffith has been with CHD Interiors for 44 years, earning a reputation for providing quality service with an uncommon design approach. Since 1977, Lance has served clients both nationally and internationally with his interior design projects landing in the pages of some of the most well-recognized home publications in the Southeast. Over the years, Lance’s key relationships with vendors across the U.S. and around the world have helped him continuously curate one-of-a-kind designs for his clients. Originally from Winston-Salem, NC via Florence, SC, Lance has always had a passion for art and creative projects. He studied business, advertising and marketing with a minor in art at the University of South Carolina. Before CHD Interiors, Lance also held a position as the creative art director at an esteemed advertising and public relations firm in Greenville, SC. When he’s not busy designing and planning international buying trips, Lance enjoys spending time with his family, biking, and traveling.
