The in-law suite kitchen could only be in a small corner of the basement. The kitchen design started with the question: how small can this kitchen be? The compact layout was designed to provide generous counter space, comfortable walking clearances, and abundant storage. The bold colors and fun patterns anchored by the warmth of the dark wood flooring create a happy and invigorating space.

The goal. A modern reinterpretation of a Mediterranean home with light, airy spaces leading to jaw dropping views of the ocean and private beach. Architecturally, the character of the existing house was respected while creating larger spaces to distinctly alter its appearance. The design language was simple, organic, and elegant. Classic details and a modern approach created a sophisticated and refreshing new layout. Prominent works of art featured upon entering this seaside escape by Picasso, Allora & Calzadilla, Anish Kapoor, Robert Pruitt to Blair Thurman invigorate the overall calming color palette. Contemporary furnishings, bright red color accents, luxe finishes and textures with elements of classic and contemporary design tell a story about the transformation of this property into an exquisitely bold and refined personal paradise.

Interior deconstruction that preceded the renovation has made room for efficient space division. Bi-level entrance hall breaks the apartment into two wings: the left one of the first floor leads to a kitchen and the right one to a living room. The walls are layered with large marble tiles and wooden veneer, enriching and invigorating the space.
A master bedroom with an open bathroom and a guest room are located in the separate wings of the second floor. Transitional space between the floors contains a comfortable reading area with a library and a glass balcony. One of its walls is encrusted with plants, exuding distinctively calm atmosphere.

I also pushed the boundaries by injecting modern lighting paired with more cottage lighting throughout the house. The interaction is simply spectacular and creates that much needed tension that truly invigorates!

The kitchen was completely reconfigured, moving from the exterior to the interior wall. The former laundry space was converted into a pantry and refrigerator area, significantly boosting storage options. Additionally, an island was introduced, offering extra workspace and a cozy dining spot within the kitchen. The renovation’s design also featured vibrant pops of color in the island and backsplash, invigorating the space with a lively and inviting ambiance.
