A circular concrete retaining wall provides a welcoming sitting area nestled in the lower part of the landscape. Positioned in an ideal spot for the homeowners to enjoy the the stunning water-side views throughout the seasons and at sunset. Lagoon-side property in the Bel Marin Keys, Novato, CA. Entertaining and enjoying the views were a primary design goal for this project. The project includes a large camaru deck with built-in seating. The concrete steps and pavers lead down to the water's edge. I included a sunken patio on one side and a beautiful Buddha statue on the other, surrounded by succulents and other low-water, contemporary plantings. Featured in Sunset Magazine, this minimalist gardens complements the contemporary Santa Monica home beautifully with vertical plants, warm wood elements, low-key ground cover and edgy accents. Features rust patinated steel pipe planters, curved concrete walls, a blue and grey plant palette, zen garden elements, water features, and a striking pool and pool deck.

This Hamptons estate lighting project was designed to elevate both the architecture and the surrounding landscape through a fully integrated outdoor lighting plan. Every element—from the entry gate to the front façade and garden pathways—was strategically illuminated to create a cohesive, layered nighttime experience. Warm, low-voltage lighting highlights key architectural features of the home while guiding movement through the property with subtle pathway and driveway illumination. Uplighting was used to accent specimen trees and structured plantings, adding depth and dimension without overpowering the space. The front entry sequence was designed to feel inviting and balanced, with lighting reinforcing symmetry and enhancing curb appeal.

Deck - traditional backyard deck idea in San Francisco with no cover

This full-log home was the first to meet Wisconsin Energy Star Program Standards and to achieve a Wisconsin Green-Built Homes certification in the State of Wisconsin. Properly kiln-dried logs played a key role in making the home air-tight and energy efficient. Logs are 8×12 rectangular Eastern White Pine with dovetail corner details. The wave pool in the lower level make this home a swimmers dream come true.

This side yard previously was a tad messy. We tamed it, ands tainted the fence. Also added this stepping stone pathway.

The front areas of this landscape were transformed from a tired, water thirsty lawn into a contemporary setting with dramatic concrete pavers leading to the home's entrance and a new driveway using large concrete slabs with small black pebbles set in resin. A Japanese Maple surrounded by mondo grass and pebbles soften the hardscaping. Elfin thyme was planted between the pavers to the entrance. Creating 5-10 feet of defensible space around a home is key. After directly addressing the home's vulnerabilities to collecting embers, we planted low-lying, mostly-native foliage to protect the home from rolling embers.
