Situated on a mid-island lot on Hobe Sound, this new construction Island Colonial wraps around a classically-based, impeccably landscaped courtyard that serves as a tranquil, private oasis. Inspired by the homeowner’s admiration of the work of the famed English set designer-turned-architect Oliver Messel, the 7,600 square foot home combines the relaxed feel of the Caribbean with the elevated aesthetics and amenities of modern living. Thoughtfully placed windows and doors take full advantage of open-air breezes and help to create a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor living spaces. To maximize natural light particularly during the winter months, the house was turned 90 degrees to the street to give the main living spaces the benefit of a gorgeous southern exposure. The house also features an exquisite, hand-carved oak front door, which was made as a wedding gift from her late husband and transported from the homeowner’s private residence in Barbados.

A classic, elegant master suite for the husband and wife, and a fun, sophisticated entertainment space for their family -- it was a dream project! To turn the master suite into a luxury retreat for two young executives, we mixed rich textures with a playful, yet regal color palette of purples, grays, yellows and ivories. For fun family gatherings, where both children and adults are encouraged to play, I envisioned a handsome billiard room and bar, inspired by the husband’s favorite pub.
