2018 DESIGN OVATION HONORABLE MENTION/ TRADITIONAL LIVING ROOM. Years after a major remodel, this couple contacted the designer as they had for 25 yrs to work with the contractor to create this Living Area Addition. To warm up the room and bring the ceiling down, the designer recommended the use of wood planks on the ceiling, along with 2 large-scale iron chandeliers. The double row of windows brings the outdoors in, providing wonderful daylight. The wall space above the opening to the adjacent Library was the perfect location for canvas panels inspired by the wife’s favorite Japanese artwork and commissioned by the designer with a local artist. The room provides plenty of seating for watching TV, reading or conversation. The open space between the sofa table and library allows room for the client to explore her heritage through Japanese Sword practicing or her Ikebana creations using their landscape. We are so thankful for good customers! This small family relocating from Massachusetts put their trust in us to create a beautiful kitchen for them. They let us have free reign on the design, which is where we are our best! We are so proud of this outcome, and we know that they love it too!

Small 1960s living room photo in San Francisco

Our poster project for The Three P's, this small midcentury home south of campus has great bones but lacked vibrancy - a je ne sais quoi that the clients were searching to savoir once and for all. SYI worked with them to nail down a design direction and furniture plan, and they decided to invest in the big-impact items first: built-ins and lighting and a fresh paint job that included a beautiful deep blue-green line around the windows. The vintage rug was an Etsy score at an awesome price, but only after the client spent months scouring options and sources online that matched the vision and dimensions of the plan. A good year later, the West Elm sofa went on sale, so the client took advantage; some time after that, they painted the kitchen, created the drop zone / bench area, and rounded out the room with occasional tables and accessories. Cottage home design photo in Burlington

A new bathroom was designed using the same space, and allowing for a larger curbless shower, two generous sink vanities and a linen cabinet. The new shower is spacious and refreshing, with tall ceilings, frameless glass walls, a curb-less and door-less entry and a barely noticeable infinity drain all adding to the openness. A bench seat was integrated into the quartz countertop wrap of the cabinets, seamlessly integrating the shower and cabinets into one cohesive space, and heat in the tile floor was also run into the bench seat to keep it warm and comfortable

This is not just any project. This is not just any house. This is a house of healing. My beloved and infinitely inspiring brother, Yeshaia Blakeney owns and runs this treatment center, The Integrity House. When my brother approached me about decorating this 7000 square foot Mediteranean home in Brentwood, I was thrilled. When he told me we had 2 weeks to complete this mission I was, well, admittedly a little bit freaked out. With the indispensable help of Emily, my brothers’ wife and powerhouse, we scoured LA to find a harmonious blend of vintage & contemporary furnishings and art, that would bring this house to life. But, before this creative process, before the decor and the art, I brought the sage and we all sat down on the living room floor, my mother lead the ceremony and we blessed the house. A room which the couple weren’t sure how it should be used. We suggested a baby grand piano for two reasons, i.e the piano speaks to elegance and it offered an opportunity for the children to take lessons (which they have done). The soft shades of gold are seen in the faux painted horizontal stripes on the walls. The silk fabrics used in the window treatments and seating add to the soft warmth and everything is grounded by the Saxony wool and silk red and gold area carpet. This LEED Platinum certified duplex is a modern mix of brick, stucco, panel and wood. The south unit is sloped for solar panels and the north side lets tons of natural light into the 2 storey open riser staircase. Xeriscaping is complimented with drought tolerant plants as well as turf; a rain garden captures a large percentage of rainwater coming off the roof.
