The renovation of this Wallingford craftsman-style bungalow is a thoughtful mix of contemporary ideals within the traditional language of the existing home. Overall, the house was in good shape, but there were unique changes the owner wanted to promote socializing and cooking, relatable to the craftsman style, setting an eclectic balance.
Natural light transforms the space. The vaulted ceiling and five over-sized skylights, plus glass doors allow sunlight to pour through and fill the kitchen and social space with tons of daylight.
To extend the kitchen, the busiest room in the home, a NanaWall opens to a tiered deck with a connection to the backyard and intimate garden views. There is an in-kitchen Wood Stone pizza oven. An 18-foot long island runs the length of the kitchen where homemade pizzas are made, plus it conceals a shuffleboard table. A black metal wall holds eight beer taps and a surface for creativity.
The tatami room serves as an adaptive space – for eating, sleeping, playing games, and socializing.

The Saber 4-burner Liquid Propane Grill with Dual Side Burners uses a proprietary infrared cooking system that keeps meat naturally moist and tender, even when cooked to well-done. Unlike traditional gas grills that often dry out meat, Saber's exclusive cooking system generates 100% infrared heat and directs airflow away from the cooking surface to lock in food's natural juices and reduce cooking times.

[?????? ??????????] At the intersection of art and architecture lives our Mobile Greenhouse. This seeming love-child of tom fruin & olson kundig was assembled with salvaged pieces including Sunkist-steel-factory windows, a motorcycle trailer, an old factory hand wheel, a rooftop solar water tank, a kid’s single speed bicycle front/rear sprockets, a chain from a retractable entry gate along with new metal stock from @ims_metals and beautiful art glass from @pacificartglass. p.c. Gary Moss Photography
Function is elevated through beauty and now our herb garden is protected from the adorable bunnies of this Conejo Valley while the structure throws pools of liquid blue and green on the DG. All while re-using leftover parts, some of a bygone era. (Sigh. Oh, single-paned steel windows, we love you - even though you are completely energy inefficient) The parabolic angle-iron arch was critical to the design so we sallied forth through the tantrums it caused. As lovers of #stainedglass in general, we loved seeing this larger scale project come together.

An improved layout and maximized storage were key parts of the brief for the full-gut renovation of this kitchen in a 1920s era house on the West Side of Vancouver, BC.
A narrow custom island/kitchen cart was also an important element in keeping the kitchen operating as the true heart of this busy home.
Burgundy accents in the tile inset and back door (shown later) reference the original burgundy tile as well as favorite dishes and special textile pieces.
