A block of compressed, dried coir (coconut husk fiber). Coir soaks up 5 times its weight in water, and holds it in the potting mix for plants. Unlike peat moss, coir won't repel water if it dries out. An abundant byproduct of the coconut industry, it's more sustainable than peat. We had a local faux painter paint and distress the island as well as the pewter metal faux finish on the vent hood. The rivets are over-sized upholstery tacks. This is a 1928 Spanish Revival home and the stairs and flooring are actually the original Magnasite (Magnesium Oxychloride), which was very popular in the 1920's. It is not tile. It's a monolithic product that is cast in place. As you can imagine it was quite damaged by the carpet tack strips that had been nailed everywhere and had to be removed. A Magnasite Specialist (Artist!!) was called in to do all of the restoration and recoloring of the stairway and foyer. It's very difficult to repair and even more difficult to find someone that knows how to correctly restore it. It takes someone very "old school"

Look at that little face. We all have things that delight us, and a charming Garden Hedgehog Planter like this is definitely on many lists. It reminds us of a busy little countryside hedgehog that once befriended us on a trip overseas, but this charmer is moving in to stay. Our planter has room for a wide variety of flowers or little blooming bushes, and is a good place to grow your cacti, spiky aloe, or agave plants. It’s made from the mineral magnesium. No drain hole, so just create a basic drainage layer of pebbles, stone, or pumice at the bottom of the pot before adding soil.
