For this job, I had the pleasure of visiting the historic Salts Mill, a former textile mill turned art gallery, shopping centre, and restaurant complex near Bingley, West Yorkshire. It was built in 1853 by the famous manufacturer and philanthropist, Sir Titus Salt, and was at one point the largest industrial building in the world by total floor area. As you can imagine, a lot of the rooms at Salts Mill are over a century and a half old. Most of them also contained stone flooring made from Yorkstone – a type of Sandstone unique to Yorkshire, and easily distinguishable due to its rich, natural yellow colouring. Unfortunately, one such floor in the Salts Mill was in quite a bad state. It has completely lost its vibrance – appearing more grey than yellow – and was evidentially in need of a very deep clean and fresh seal. I started the Yorkstone tile restoration by soaking the floor in a strong dilution of our reliable alkaline-based tile cleaner, Tile Doctor Pro Clean, and scrubbing it in using a rotary machine fitted with a scrubbing pad. This quickly removed the initial layers of muck and, in the process, revealed oil-based paint and glue stains all over the floor. To break down the oil and paint I applied Tile Doctor Remove & Go, which is our heavy duty stripper, remover and degreaser. This quickly ate through the paint and glue, and I followed by giving the floor another thorough clean with Pro Clean. Finally, I rinsed the floor with clean water before leaving it to dry for a full two days due to the amount of chemical cleaning product and water applied. Upon my return to the Salts Mill two days later, I ran some quick damp tests to check for any excess moisture which could’ve prevented me from sealing the floor. Thankfully, the floor was dry and ready to be sealed, but it is always recommended, especially with older floors, to be aware of damp issues as these can be very troublesome. My choice of sealer was Tile Doctor Seal and Go, a topical sealer which provides a robust, stain resistant seal and a durable low sheen finish all in one product. Making it green, safe and contemporary were the goals of this renovation. The new kitchen layout with the center island has made getting around this central kitchen more possible. Taller, custom cabinetry has improved the overall storage and accessibility. The open concept design makes the space the hub of the home. Green, safe and contemporary features make this project the jewel of the neighborhood. These features include: • Use of custom-made Douglas Fir slab cabinetry (engineered wood veneer from younger growth trees) with low shin finish (low VOC water based finish) and kilned dried select hardwood frames construction without use of any formaldehyde glues. • Use of no VOC paint on entire interior and exterior. • Manufacturing and installing 12” x 12 ft x ¾” solid birch hardwood floor for entire first floor. This was finished with Low-VOC water based finish. • Reuse of some of the existing lumber and plywood in the same project was essential. • Installing LED recess lighting and task lighting with Lurton Home system lighting management and controllable low voltage dimmers. • Installing high efficiency with the highest rating of Energy Star appliances. • Installing high grade closed cell insulation in walls and open space, caulking and sealing all open gaps. • Install large double pane-low E, argon filled gas windows. • Use of air tight insulated duct chases on all new ducts. The homeowners, who are active members of wildlife preservations, are pleased with green and environmentally safe kitchen and entire first floor project.

For this luxury hotel project in Dubai, we designed and produced a complete range of custom outdoor furniture to enhance multiple leisure spaces across the property. Poolside Area: We supplied coordinated sun loungers, bar stools, and dining sets to complement the expansive swimming pool. Each piece is crafted with weather-resistant materials to withstand the intense desert sun and occasional coastal winds, while providing guests with maximum comfort. Terrace Lounge: The highlight of the project is a round, hand-woven rattan sofa — a true labor of craftsmanship. This signature piece invites guests to relax, enjoy coffee, and soak in the abundant sunshine. The complex weaving process and precise frame construction make it a timeless classic in our collection. Garden Relaxation Zone: We also created PE rattan sofas paired with large outdoor umbrellas, offering a shaded, tranquil retreat within the hotel’s landscaped gardens. This product combination features a rare aesthetic match in the looks of interior and exterior wooden flooring. On top of that, application is nearly unlimited, even in circumstances with extreme changes in humidity and temperature. This is a result of a meticulous attitude and wise use of raw materials during manufacturing. This particular floor finish in anthracite shades is based on application of natural hardwax oils on engineered oak flooring inside, and on solid ash flooring outside. The oak and ash wood have both been pretreated with 100% natural processes resulting in a dark, warm appearance into the deepest grains. The thick top layer of the engineered oak floorboard (6+mm) provides that the floor and the dark colour will remain for a lifetime. The pretreatment of the solid ash flooring also highly improves its stability and durability, and is now even suitable along a pool! The outside terrace or patio will now be a TRUE extension of the living room, and designed for a smooth transition. No standard products, but personalized as desired. Last but not least exterior siding and paneling can even be matched. ‘WOODlife-Inside out’ is available in European oak, (thermo) ash and Douglas fir.

This project is manufactured in the USA. The transitional lines match the rest of the house's design. Bright White Lacquered paints on Solid Maple Wood are used on the whole design, and Cherry Chestnut is used on the Island. We have designed a Butler Pantry next to the kitchen that matches the Island color. Especially during the installation process, we checked all the details and coordinated with the contractor to make it perfect.

Our client approached us while he was in the process of purchasing his ½ lot detached unit in Hermosa Beach. He was drawn to a design / build approach because although he has great design taste, as a busy professional he didn’t have the time or energy to manage every detail involved in a home remodel. The property had been used as a rental unit and was in need of TLC. By bringing us onto the project during the purchase we were able to help assess the true condition of the home. Built in 1976, the 894 sq. ft. home had extensive termite and dry rot damage from years of neglect. The project required us to reframe the home from the inside out. To design a space that your client will love you really need to spend time getting to know them. Our client enjoys entertaining small groups. He has a custom turntable and considers himself a mixologist. We opened up the space, space-planning for his custom turntable, to make it ideal for entertaining. The wood floor is reclaimed wood from manufacturing facilities. The reframing work also allowed us to make the roof a deck with an ocean view. The home is now a blend of the latest design trends and vintage elements and our client couldn’t be happier!
