We were hired to combine the main hall bath and a 1/2 bath of the master bedroom. The main bathroom was partially gutted when we started the design project as a severe water event had occurred. The client wanted an economical, but modern looking remodel that would be appealing to buyers in the future when she needed to sell and move to a retirement community as she currently lived alone. The new tub/shower is in the location of the original 1/2 bath. Our homeowner wanted an easy to clean. but modern looking shower and vanity. Lanmark by Lane Marble was chosen as it has no grout and is a seamless product similar to Corian. We created 2 niches in the shower to store bottles to keep them off the tub deck and prevent them from slipping into the shower. An American Standard Princeton bathtub was chosen, so when the client eventually left her home, her home would be appealing to families with small children. For the vanity the same Lanmark color was chosen with 2 integrated sinks for easy cleaning. Delta and Moen faucets, showerheads, and accessories were mix and matched to update the bathroom. Vinyl flooring was also chosen for its ease of cleaning and care. Bamboo cabinetry was added to provide a modern,, timeless, and warm wood tone to the space. In this small home, storage is badly needed so I created a large linen cabinet with a pull-out shelf on the lower shelf for easier access for that shelf. The original 1/2 bath window in the new tub/shower area was replaced with a new vinyl window and wrapped with Lanmark to provide a watertight system. To give plenty of lighting at the vanity, George Kovacs LED lights fixtures were installed over each sink. The property, nestled among towering Ponderosa pines, will eventually welcome over 70 customized vacation homes. Our High Desert Retreat is our first fully furnished Forestbrook home - a getaway for our clients and their family and a year-round vacation rental. The owners call Arizona home, and that warm desert palette inspired the aesthetic of their new retreat. Area rugs with rich earth tones ground each space and provide color and texture for bedding, artwork and upholstery. The great room windows are the signature of each Forestbrook home, and our furnishings pull the greens and rusts from the landscape, drawing you in. The kitchen’s warm woods and classic surfaces welcome the family chef, and inside those cabinets is every utensil, plate, pot, pan, and tool they’ll ever need. This client grew up in this 1950’s family home and has now become owner in his adult life. Designing and remodeling this childhood home that the client was very bonded and familiar with was a tall order. A modern version of a mid-century His and Hers grand master bathroom was created to include all the amenities and nothing left behind! Maintaining ultra-clean lines yet delivering ample design interest at every detail, This bathroom is eclectically a one of a kind luxury statement. The concept in the laundry room was to create a simple, easy to use and clean space with ample storage and a place removed from the central part of the home to house the necessity of the cats and their litter box needs. There was no need for glamour in the laundry room yet we were able to create a simple highly utilitarian space. If there is one room in the home that requires frequent visitors to thoroughly enjoy with a huge element of surprise, it’s the powder room! This is a room where you know that eventually, every guest will visit. Knowing this, we created a bold statement with layers of intrigue that would leave ample room for fun conversation with your guests upon their prolonged exit. The homeowner purchased her home in Minnetonka Beach with the intention of totally gutting and rebuilding the cottage as a summer home. At the time, the homeowner was living outside of Minnesota and was looking for a builder that she could trust. We took what was thought to be a servants quarters for a family estate on Lake Minnetonka and turned it into an energy efficient cottage that was large enough for Karen to entertain, she loves to cook! Danberry eventually took the home down to the foundation and built it back using the original architecture. "We were able to keep the original country look while also giving Karen the home of her dreams," Jeff said. "Not only did the project turn out better then I ever could have imagined," the homeowner said. "It was done on time, within my budget and Jeff and I are still great friends! EDG builds more than just homes, he builds relationships!"

This radical remodeling was for a bachelor orthodontist. He chose the house, built in the early 50's, because it was a great site overlooking a wide bay. It also had a good head start due to its high sloping ceiling which allowed the second floor master bedroom to open to the living room below. He wanted a free-flowing house . . . . uncluttered, open and casual. Exterior form was created by boxing down from existing roof overhangs, which also carried into the interiors. Diagonal cedar shiplap boards clad vertical surfaces inside and out. The sloping ceiling is also cedar. The former Florida room became an activity area with a billiard table, bar, dining and an open kitchen. A swimming pool and multilevel decks were added as an extension of the activity area. The new entrance became a landscaped garden accessed by a bridge over a pond. The bachelor eventually succumbed and we remodeled again 17 years later, for a new wife and baby, with substantial additions and a more feminine look. Read More

The clients had raised their family, a son and a daughter, in a large traditional house on five acres of property. Their plan was to build three houses, one for themselves and one for each of their married children, around a small lake on the back of the property and sell the old house. The small house, basically one bedroom, has an interior tropical garden at the waters edge, on the lower level. The entrance, on the upper level, contains the master bedroom suite, kitchen and dining area, which cantilevers over the garden below. The several roof levels are flat, and a diagonal sloping gable defines the main space. The owner died before the construction was finished and his widow lived there for many years, near her family. Eventually a new owner remodeled including a second floor addition, but the character of the original design remains.

This project is proof that the challenges posed by limited space and accessibility can always be overcome in order to deliver stunning results. The space itself was rather small and also very close to the neighboring residence. Not only was the neighboring wall imposing, it was also of a completely different design style. The goal here was to create a layering effect with numerous features of varying heights. Not only would this add depth and dimension to the overall design, but it would cause the viewer to shift their focus from the encroaching wall to the beauty of the pool space. Instead of trying to maximize the water area by squaring off the pool, I decided to instead maximize the visual interest by gracefully rounding off the back wall of the pool. This was accomplished by implementing a raised stucco wall, and also a shorter, matching curved wall, featuring a "Sheer Descent" waterfall. Inside the taller, deep-plum stucco wall, I created three vertical windows which are all highlighted by LED uplighting. To give depth, dimension and some natural beauty, I implemented a simple bed of Horse Tail Reeds behind the short wall, and chose to place Banana Trees behind the taller wall. The main seating area is just outside the home's master suite, and is separated by a "Leuder" limestone fire pit. Aside from being a striking design feature, the floating stepper pads accomplish a number of things; they serve triple-duty as a walkway, a seating area adjacent to the fire pit, and also as a poolside rest for beverages. After discovering that the narrow courtyard acted as a sort of wind tunnel between the two houses, we opted to install tempered glass in order to better control the behavior of the flames. This solved the problem while remaining visually pleasing to the client as well. You'll notice in some of the leading photos for this project that I had originally intended to implement stepper pads on both sides of the pool closest to the house. And despite a thorough understanding of what would be necessary on an engineering and structural-design basis, we were eventually forced to turn this into a solid deck due to unrelenting city-required setbacks. However the client remained very understanding due to encountering a number of similar issues in their home-build process. In the end, they were delivered an outstanding pool design that had come to fruition only after coming up with numerous solutions to a number of challenges that only a unique space like this could provide.

A 1940’s West End commercial offiice space converted to a modern residential home for a family of four and a dog. The completed space has over 2800 square feet and includes two bedrooms on the lower floor and a master with ensuite on the second, a 600 square foot rooftop deck and a bright and airy main floor with kitchen and great room. Special focus on spaces for art to hang in a gallery like setting, custom built-in storage where you might least expect it and the installation of an aluminum curtain wall window system. Of special note, reclaimed fir joists from the demolition were turned into stunning 11” solid fir flooring, adding character throughout.

An American Standard Princeton bathtub was chosen, so when the client eventually left her home, her home would be appealing to families with small children. For the vanity the same Lanmark color was chosen with 2 integrated sinks for easy cleaning. Delta and Moen faucets, showerheads, and accessories were mix and matched to update the bathroom. Vinyl flooring was also chosen for its ease of cleaning and care. Bamboo cabinetry was added to provide a modern,, timeless, and warm wood tone to the space. In this small home, storage is badly needed so I created a large linen cabinet with a pull-out shelf on the lower shelf for easier access for that shelf. The original 1/2 bath window in the new tub/shower area was replaced with a new vinyl window and wrapped with Lanmark to provide a watertight system. To give plenty of lighting at the vanity, George Kovacs LED lights fixtures were installed over each sink. This bathroom is now a light and bright space that will be functional and beautiful for years to come. This project was designed for and completed by Corvallis Custom Kitchens and Baths.
