A new 17,700 S.F. 2 Story Municipal Office Complex, the design includes Administration Offices for Board of Supervisors, Treasurer, Recorder, Assessor, Community Development, Planning and Building Departments, Environmental Health, Court Administration, Court and Board Room, and joint Conference Rooms. Work on this Complex also included ADA Upgrades to existing Buildings, Parking, Walkways, Entries and Native Landscaping.

We were able to make this house very special (and very green) by adding the first village-approved rain garden in Northbrook. Rain gardens use vegetation, soils, and other elements to restore some of the natural processes required to manage water and create a healthier environment. We installed a 5,000 gallon sub-ground retention system to diminish the load of a large rain event on the property and the municipal system, while retaining water for the homeowner that can then be used for irrigation on the property.

The project was a complete redesign and transformation of a dated house in a traditional neighborhood into a contemporary residence. The design intent was to pay homage to the historical neighborhood by maintaining the original form of the structure while modernizing the aesthetic and detailing. River rock facing the gate-post, as well as the rip-rap, is locally sourced. The pervious concrete of the drive allows water to drain through to below without being dumped onto the municipal streets, thus reducing downstream flooding & erosion. Greg Mix, Andy Jessup

This midcentury modern house was transformed from a municipal garage into a private house in the late 1950’s by renowned modernist architect Paul Rudolph. At project start the house was in pristine condition, virtually untouched since it won a Record Houses award in 1960. We were tasked with bringing the house up to current energy efficiency standards and with reorganizing the house to accommodate the new owners’ more contemporary needs, while also respecting the noteworthy original design.
