Rather than positioning the furniture against the walls, the seating arrangement was intentionally floated on a subtle angle to transform the proportions of this narrow urban row home. This strategic space-planning technique visually widens the room, enhances circulation, and creates the illusion of a more expansive, open-concept interior. The angled layout naturally draws guests into the conversation area, fostering a warm, welcoming atmosphere while encouraging effortless entertaining. By balancing scale, sightlines, and flow, the design maximizes every square foot, proving that thoughtful furniture placement is one of the most effective tools for creating a luxurious, spacious-feeling home.

This cozy living room renovation, completed in the summer of 2021, was the perfect update for a busy family of six. Located on Long Lake, just north of Metro Detroit, this space sits just off the pool deck and overlooks the lake with an expansive southern exposure. To complete the look, we removed a dated brick fireplace, built the structure for a stacked monolithic stone structure. A Samsung Frame TV lends a modern vibe with changing artwork and compliments the seasonal views of this lakeside room. With a variety of materials and fabrics, this space becomes the perfect place to relax after a morning swim or a family meal in the adjacent dining space.

This expansive living room was made larger by relocating an existing HVAC system that was originally placed in the middle of the home. Since being relocated, the living room opens up into the kitchen and dining room. The dark stained hardwood floors are hand planed, which has a white shag area rug that sits on top. The Sherwin Williams wall color is gray with a blue hue, which coordinate well with the sofa fabric and matching throw pillows. The round, glass coffee table gives extra seating with four leather wedge style stools nested beneath. The grommet, panel style window treatments hang on an oil rubbed bronze rod above custom faux white wood blinds.
