Surrounded by a patio and wood deck, this inground pool design and construction project in San Fernando was built to transform a sloped yard into a usable outdoor living space. Retaining walls helped level the property while creating raised planting beds throughout the landscape. The custom pool includes a tanning ledge with loungers and a waterfall flowing from the raised spa. Stairs and walkways connect the yard's different areas and provide easy access across the property. A gas fire pit creates a gathering place, while ongoing landscape maintenance keeps the lawn and plantings looking their best.

Keeping with the craftsman design, these homeowners wanted to keep the same color palette but with all new products. When weighing the ongoing costs of patchwork repairs and repainting against a comprehensive exterior renovation, the cost vs. value equation became clear.

An archetypal Vancouver garden distinct to the rain rich areas of coastal B.C. Large Cedars, enormous Rhododendrons and Camellias, whose blooms weave exotically through evergreen masses, create an ethereal quality in this garden. The client wanted to reveal this jewel like quality while eking out a little more people space. The challenge was in retaining the existing trees and large broadleaf evergreens while significantly re-organizing the grades in a design concept that established a strong relationship between the house and garden. A real lack of light was a challenge for growing. Green became a colour of many faces, amplified by contrasting textures and rays of sun through branches. A thoughtful eye and a smart pruning program is required for the ongoing maintenance of this garden. The reward is literally breathtaking - a magical place where the line between worlds is blurred.

Close up of the dormers and ridge caps on this wood roof replacement of this expansive residence situated on the Connecticut River in Deep River, CT. We installed copper flashing in the valleys, to provide durable protection as well as a classic aesthetic. This home is located in the middle of a grove of large Oaks and Maples; combined with the nearby river - moisture is an ongoing concern. Therefore, after stripping this roof down to the sheathing, we added two layers of Ice & Water membrane as well as a layer of CedAir-mat ventilation mat across the entire installation. For this project, we specified western red cedar perfection shingles treated with cromated copper arsenate (an antifungal preservative).
