The Petal & Poppy Home is a vibrant, collected family residence defined by bold color, layered pattern, and a confident sense of personality. Designed over several years as the young family grew, the home reflects an evolving story rooted in warmth, creativity, and a love of expressive interiors.
Color guided the design from the outset. A blue grasscloth dining room and an existing pink Persian rug in the formal living room became the foundation for a palette that unfolded organically throughout the home. With clients eager to mix patterns and embrace saturated hues, the design process focused on contrast, cohesion, and joyful self-expression.
The entry makes an immediate statement with a playful spotted stair runner, oversized artwork, and a high-gloss black handrail that introduces graphic contrast. The formal living room, designed for entertaining, is the moodiest space in the home. Dark garnet walls and a commissioned piece by local artist Carrie Gillen create a dramatic backdrop, while pink tweed swivel chairs and a tailored charcoal sofa complete a space designed for lingering.
Beyond French doors, the home office is an immersive mix of pattern and color, with wallpaper wrapping both walls and ceiling. A leopard carpet and modern crystal chandelier add a touch of glamour, resulting in a space that feels energizing and personal. The dining room continues the confident use of blue, layering patterns around a custom round pedestal table designed for everyday meals and gatherings alike.
At the heart of the home, the family room was designed for togetherness. A bright blue sectional anchors the space, complemented by custom ottomans on hidden casters and softened with tailored throw pillows. Existing bookshelves are refreshed with a Peter Fasano wallcovering, creating a collected, lived-in backdrop.
Upstairs, the primary suite offers a softer expression of color, blending blues, oranges, and pinks, while built-in window benches add moments of comfort. The children’s bedrooms balance playfulness with longevity, layered with color and texture designed to grow alongside them.
The Petal & Poppy Home is a celebration of color, creativity, and family life—an interior that feels intentionally layered, expressive, and deeply personal, designed to evolve over time.

Our latest project in Harlem involves the transformation of the lower two floors of a four-story
brownstone into a vibrant and playful duplex apartment. The design balances functionality with
whimsy, creating a bright, welcoming home full of character and personality.
The main floor is designed as an open-concept living and kitchen area that maximizes both light
and space. The living room is anchored by a striking custom-built floor-to-ceiling unit, which
serves as a multifunctional centerpiece, combining a TV entertainment center, a bar, and display
shelving. This elegant feature also subtly divides the living area from the staircase leading to the
lower level. The kitchen, a focal point of the home, features floor-to-ceiling cabinetry that makes
full use of the high ceilings, blending grey tones with walnut finishes. A playful multicolored
triangular-tiled backsplash adds an element of fun, while large glass sliding doors lead to a newly
constructed deck overlooking the backyard. Above the kitchen sink, a generously sized window
allows natural light to flood in, transforming what was once a dimly lit space into a bright and
inviting area. At the front of the main floor, a small music studio offers flexibility and creativity.
This space can be enclosed with floor-to-ceiling aluminum and glass sliding partitions,
maintaining the open flow of the layout while offering privacy when needed. A bold powder
room further enhances the personality of the space. It features a custom black wall-mounted
concrete sink with an angular design that wraps around the toilet. The sink is set against a fullheight
mirrored wall, which reflects the dynamic black-and-white graffiti wallpaper, making the
compact space both striking and memorable.
The lower level is dedicated to the private quarters, designed with comfort and luxury in mind.
The primary bedroom suite is a true sanctuary, boasting a spacious ensuite bath with a luxurious
open wet-room concept. At its heart is a freestanding white soaking tub, complemented by dark
blue hexagonal tiles that cover the floor and extend up the wall behind the double vanities,
creating a dramatic and cohesive effect. The toilet is tucked away in a separate room painted in a
matching deep blue, adding to the suite’s serene and cohesive ambiance. This level also includes
a second bedroom and a guest bath, each reflecting the playful design theme of the home. The
guest bathroom is particularly delightful, with sunny white and yellow hexagonal tiles on the
walls and a matching yellow tile floor, creating a cheerful and uplifting space.
Every detail of this Harlem duplex reflects the client’s vision for a home that feels modern yet
full of personality. From the playful material choices to the thoughtful use of light and space, the
design celebrates the character of the historic brownstone while embracing contemporary living.

This handcrafted Ash bar stool combines everyday functionality with meaningful craftsmanship, creating seating that's as personal as it is practical. Built from solid USA-sourced Ash hardwood, this custom bar stool features a clean, modern profile with custom-fabricated metal legs and a one-of-a-kind epoxy inlay, making it a beautiful addition to kitchen islands, home bars, breakfast counters, and entertainment spaces.
Created for a client in Howell, Michigan, this custom hardwood bar stool was designed to celebrate the family's story. The seat features a detailed epoxy inlay of an excavator, honoring the client's family history and career, while the custom metal legs were fabricated into the shape of an "L" to represent their family name. Together, these personalized details transform a simple bar stool into a meaningful heirloom that reflects the people who use it every day.
The light, natural grain of the Ash hardwood creates a warm, contemporary appearance that allows the custom details to take center stage without overwhelming the design. Comfortable enough for everyday meals yet distinctive enough to become a conversation piece, this stool demonstrates how custom furniture can combine lasting functionality with personal significance.
Unlike mass-produced bar stools made from particle board, imported hardwood substitutes, or thin veneers, our seating is handcrafted from solid hardwood that's built to withstand everyday use for generations. Every piece of wood is individually selected for its strength, beauty, and natural character, ensuring each stool is truly one of a kind while offering exceptional durability that grows more beautiful with age.
