This amazing Audiophile wall was created in house by H. Customs audio video. Reclaimed lumber from an old barn was used to create an old look in a modern office. The wall is completely functional as a stereo audio system. It includes a Samsung 65" LED, a Marantz Audiophile Glass record player levitating on a black custom built steel shelf, Custom Built Subwoofers and speakers all TruAudio GHT Line - which include 2-12" subwoofers, 2-8" subwoofers, 6-6.5" Midrange drivers, 4-5 1/4" midrange drivers and 4-1" Tweeters. We completely transformed this office space into a gentlemen's poker room. We designed a custom made poker table to seat four players comfortably. New hardwood floors, accent wall tile, lighting, and paint were all chosen carefully to create this moody aesthetic.

Mike's attached pictures of his "basketball themed" half court were taken in the front yard of his residence in Columbus, Ohio. The dimensions of the high school sized half court are 44 feet wide and 30 feet deep. It includes a home and away bench, player drinking fountain, night light and drench drain. All done in local high school colors, black and gold. Landscaping is not completely done yet. This is a Hercules Platinum Basketball System that was purchased in June of 2012. It was installed on a 44 ft wide by a 30 ft deep playing area in Columbus, OH. This is part of a whole home remodel we completed and featured in the Home Builder's Association Showcase of Remodeled Homes. This is a bedroom for the homeowner's son. The room originally had a massive closet, but not a lot of square footage for a bedroom. The closet walls were partially removed and the closet was essentially cut in half. The old closet doors were saved and reinstalled on the new walls and now there is enough room to comfortably fit a bed, desk and still walk around. Team Player (color talented) carpet was installed that ties to the rest of the home. The room was painted Creekbend and Painters White. This is part of a whole home remodel we completed and featured in the Home Builder's Association Showcase of Remodeled Homes. This room is probably the biggest transformation in the whole home. What was previously an unused garage in the home, has now become a mudroom and entertainment area for the home. The old garage door was removed and a new wall was built with a window and door. The whole room used to be a step down into the garage, so a new slab was poured to bring it up to the same level - however structure in the exterior wall didn't allow for the new entry door to be raised up in height, which is why there is a step down for the door, which also keeps salty snow water away from the carpet. What used to be the entry door into the garage was walled in and is now the closet for coats and boots, and will have a bench installed lengthwise. Heating and electrical were brought into the room to make it a livable space. Can lighting was installed to bring in light without affecting the ceiling height. The ceiling texture was stripped and sanded and repainted white. The walls were painted French Grey and Creekbend. Finally, tile was installed by the entry door to match the upstairs Galvano Charcoal porcelain tile and Team Player (color talented) carpet throughout. Photo by Laura Cavendish

We removed non-structural walls at the entry to the rest of the home to allow for more flow from the home into the room. The utility room previously was not actually large enough for the utilities, and there was a hole cut into the wall to allow the unit to fit. To resolve this issue the wall of the utility room was brought out into the space. Additionally, the plumbing and drainage for the water softner was not properly drained from the room and just went through small pvc pipes (that you can see in the photo) that went over the floor to a hole in the center of the room. The plumbing and drainage was completely rebuilt and re-plumbed through the ceilings to drain properly into the house lines. The room also used to be a step down into the garage, so once the plumbing was adjusted a new slab was poured to bring it up to the same level. Heating and electrical were brought into the room to make it a livable space. Can lighting was installed to bring in light without affecting the ceiling height. Sound Design showroom The new 4,500 square foot showroom puts the ELAN g! Entertainment and Control System on the main stage, according to owner Chris Bean, who wants to make sure that it is the first thing clients experience when they walk into the entrance living room. “What better way to celebrate our 20th year as Texas’ premier custom installation firm than to open a beautiful new showroom with all the latest home technologies?” Bean said. “We’ve learned a lot over the years, and our experience helped us design the new showroom in a way that presents a relaxing, luxurious ambience that appeals to our local clientele. We used the best-of-the-best in every category, from the Runco 63-inch plasma TV framed and hidden by a VisionArt motorized art print to the ultra-high-end CAT MBX Sequoia speakers and of course the ELAN g! System. "We have another showroom in Lakeway, TX where we’ve been showing off ELAN g! since the system debuted in 2010. When we first got into custom home installation, multi-room audio and video systems were the biggest client request. Today, we are increasingly finding that homeowners and homebuyers are as interested in complete home control as they are in their TVs and music, if not more so. Expandable, easy to use control systems that utilize mobile devices and simplify home living are going to be major sales drivers of the future for both the CI industry and the home building industry. ELAN g! Homeowners in Horseshoe Bay are all about recreation and a luxury lifestyle so we wanted to show the unique ways people could enhance their home’s fun factor. From controlling lighting, heating and surveillance cameras on an iPhone to a hyper-realistic golf simulator that makes you feel like you’re really teeing off on the course, our Horseshoe Bay showroom is as state-of-the-art as it can be.” Sound Design also built a commercial quality home theater that uses a Display Development HD3 projector, a 184-inch Stewart Filmscreen Luxus Delux screen, A Kaleidescape M300 player connected to a Kaleidescape CinemaOne server in the lobby, a Theta Casablanca III preamp/processor, Theta Compli-blu Blu-ray player, a PrimaCinema server, and a bevy of California Audio Technology speakers, subwoofers and amplifiers.

Though lovely, this new build was lacking personality. This work from home family needed a vision to transform their priority spaces into something that felt unique and deeply personal. Having relocated from California, they sought a home that truly represented their family's identity and catered to their lifestyle. With a blank canvas to work with, the design team had the freedom to create a space that combined interest, beauty, and high functionality. A home that truly represented who they are.

THEME There are two priorities in this room: Hockey (in this case, Washington Capitals hockey) and FUN. FOCUS The room is broken into two main sections (one for kids and one for adults); and divided by authentic hockey boards, complete with yellow kickplates and half-inch plexiglass. Like a true hockey arena, the room pays homage to star players with two fully autographed team jerseys preserved in cases, as well as team logos positioned throughout the room on custom-made pillows, accessories and the floor. The back half of the room is made just for kids. Swings, a dart board, a ball pit, a stage and a hidden playhouse under the stairs ensure fun for all. STORAGE A large storage unit at the rear of the room makes use of an odd-shaped nook, adds support and accommodates large shelves, toys and boxes. Storage space is cleverly placed near the ballpit, and will eventually transition into a full storage area once the pit is no longer needed. The back side of the hockey boards hold two small refrigerators (one for adults and one for kids), as well as the base for the audio system. GROWTH The front half of the room lasts as long as the family’s love for the team. The back half of the room grows with the children, and eventually will provide a useable, wide open space as well as storage. SAFETY A plexiglass wall separates the two main areas of the room, minimizing the noise created by kids playing and hockey fans cheering. It also protects the big screen TV from balls, pucks and other play objects that occasionally fly by. The ballpit door has a double safety lock to ensure supervised use.

We recently completed a custom built-in in Lambertville that completely transformed the living room of this classic row home into a rich and luxurious library with custom touches like a secret compartment and beautiful crown moulding to take advantage of the already tall ceilings. Our clients for this project made some exciting choices with color and lighting that lend the home both charm and sophistication.

The renovation of an extensive linear residence and site facing Port Orchard waterway embraces water, greenspace and forested hillside. The home, completed this fall, serves as an artist’s studio, galleries, family space, game room, outdoor living areas and peaceful retreat. New interiors and exterior spaces and finishes, cabinetry, lighting, paving, landscape and courtyards become settings for the owner’s art + collections, three-generations of family and the wonderful colors and textures of the land + water. Inside, a monumental central stair and tapered two-story tall red cedar and steel column was designed as the residence’s entry focal point and internal landmarks, guiding the visitor’s eye to the main atrium…. and upward. Heavy wide-flange steel moment frames support the house and enable whole walls of glass. Rough, mill-finished steel contrasts refined cabinetry, stone, wood structure and defining dropped ceilings, reflecting the opener’s love of the tension between highly polished and detailed + rough, found art. Outside, A new southern “dining room” was designed for warm summer evening gatherings under a heavy-timber trellis. The focus, opposite water and island views, is a metal perforated screen. The final screen is composed of the lyrics from a Joe Cocker song of great meaning to the owners, cut from ½” marine bronze, set into dark-fired brick. “Oh My Darling, Be Home Soon….” Natural daylight and high-efficiency lighting are central players as in any gallery. From a high clerestory and extensive southern and eastern window-walls to carefully selected up-lighting, pendants, and accent fixtures, Rhodes Architecture + Light worked closely with the owner to ensure that their dark existing house would become one filled with light…. night and day. The owners, Ken and Jane, allowed us to interview them about their experience working with Rhodes Architecture + Light, and how they are feeling about living with the architecture today. What was your experience like, working with Rhodes Architecture + Light? “They worked with us because it was a remodel, an existing thing, and we had to try to make it work for all of our interests and how our family operated. They listened, and we listened, and it was a great communication back and forth.”–Jane How has the renovation changed the way you live and enjoy your home? “I remember saying to them that I want the whole floor heated because it gets so chilly down here. And we had the wood burning stove, but it was over there and now we just turn the floor heat on and we can come down. It’s cozy and nice. So we’re looking forward to winter now.”–Ken “We have 5 kids together and now a bunch of grandchildren. I wanted a marble countertop, but there’s just no way. I didn’t want it to be a place where I had to say, ‘No, no, no. Wipe up your drink, do this, do that.’ I wanted it to be a place where everybody can come with all the kids, and we make a big mess, and I can clean it up. And we can enjoy ourselves here, because that room upstairs, we almost never went in. And now we’re in there eating pizza and watching the game.” –Jane As an artist, Jane enjoyed the collaborative process. “I can’t believe it was as positive as it was. I went into it thinking it would be a great, creative, fun, collaborative thing, and I have to say, with our architects, it was. I like that creative process. I always say when I am doing a painting, it’s a series of problem solving so it wasn’t unusual for me.
