Sarabi Studio designed, fabricated and installed this unique ribbon stair case for a Austin, TX residence. The stairs are constructed from 3/16" thick steel plate and the center support is a single seamless steel tube. The stairs lead from a office up to a roof top terrace with stunning views of the city in the distance.

Curved staircase detail reveals a dark metal handrail flowing around warm wood treads and pale plank flooring. Slender vertical balusters follow the changing geometry, ending in a compact sculptural curl at the lower turn. The top-down perspective emphasizes the railing's continuous movement and the contrast between precise metal lines and organic wood grain. This refined architectural feature brings a crafted, contemporary character to the home's open circulation space.

An historic estate in the Hamptons, this project called for style-appropriate long-lasting hardware. The arched gates were outfitted with solid bronze gate latches, hinges, and cane bolts. Gates were hung with 4” Solid Bronze Heavy Duty Button Tip Hinges. Solid Bronze 20” Cane Bolts hold the fixed gate in place. The gates had relatively narrow stiles (vertical members) and so the box latch was used. The box latch has a shorter latching arm, which means it can be used on gates with narrow stiles. On the other side is a 5” plate with octagonal handle.
NB: These site photos were taken from an active construction site in the midst of winter. Gates and hardware show rain and dirt.

These Auckland homeowners wanted an industrial style look for their interior home design. So when it came to building the staircase, handrail and balustrades, we knew the exposed steel in a matte black was going to be the right look for them.
Due to the double stringers and concrete treads, this style of staircase is extremely solid and has zero movement, massively reducing noise.
Our biggest challenge on this project was that the double stringer staircase was designed with concrete treads that needed to be colour matched to the pre-existing floor.
