When mixing metals, it's crucial to consider the undertones of each finish. Fixtures with warm undertones can be paired with others that share the same warmth, while cool undertones should be kept separate. You might think this contradicts the homeowner’s choice, but all nickel finishes actually possess warm undertones. A closer look at a polished nickel faucet versus a chrome faucet reveals this difference, highlighting the warm undertones in the nickel.

We rearranged cherished possessions and centered the furniture in this very large living room to create one cohesive conversation group (see Before photo). All new updated performance fabrics refresh the high-quality traditional furniture, and the lemongrass, blue and beige pattern adds contrast and interest. The mirror fits perfectly over the sofa and the grouping is grounded with a large area rug.

Inspired by industrial lighting, the Hi-Bay Pendant designs maintain the boldness of their predecessors but possess refined details throughout. Hi-Bay fixtures with Clear halophane glass are available in choice of finish of Satin Nickel (shown), or Bronze. Also available are fixtures with sold metal shades in Bronze, Polished Nickel and Satin Nickel finishes. A frosted glass diffuser conceals the light source and gently softens the incandescent illumination.

Across from Hudson River Park, the Classic 7 pre-war apartment had not renovated in over 50 years. The new owners, a young family with two kids, desired to open up the existing closed in spaces while keeping some of the original, classic pre-war details. Dark, dimly-lit corridors and clustered rooms that were a detriment to the brilliant natural light and expansive views the existing apartment inherently possessed, were demolished to create a new open plan for a more functional style of living. Custom charcoal stained white oak herringbone floors were laid throughout the space. The dark blue lacquered kitchen cabinets provide a sharp contrast to the otherwise neutral colored space. A wall unit in the same blue lacquer floats on the wall in the Den.

For this project, I sorted through paper and other possessions in the home office area to purge and find better storage for them. In some cases, items didn't have places to go, so we created those. Much of the paper was no longer needed and recycled. Archive paper was filed away and paper in current use was filed into desktop receptacles for easy access. The client and I instituted a simple daily routine of putting things away that landed on the desk to keep it clear and make it an inviting place to work.
