Embarking on the design journey of Wabi Sabi Refuge, I immersed myself in the profound quest for tranquility and harmony. This project became a testament to the pursuit of a tranquil haven that stirs a deep sense of calm within. Guided by the essence of wabi-sabi, my intention was to curate Wabi Sabi Refuge as a sacred space that nurtures an ethereal atmosphere, summoning a sincere connection with the surrounding world. Deliberate choices of muted hues and minimalist elements foster an environment of uncluttered serenity, encouraging introspection and contemplation. Embracing the innate imperfections and distinctive qualities of the carefully selected materials and objects added an exquisite touch of organic allure, instilling an authentic reverence for the beauty inherent in nature's creations. Wabi Sabi Refuge serves as a sanctuary, an evocative invitation for visitors to embrace the sublime simplicity, find solace in the imperfect, and uncover the profound and tranquil beauty that wabi-sabi unveils.

Inspiration for a mid-sized timeless medium tone wood floor and brown floor entry hall remodel in New York with white walls and a white front door

The quiet, restful atmosphere of this urban apartment’s spacious master bedroom is profoundly enhanced by the unique soft green and pastel coloration of this one-of-a-kind antique Sultanabad art carpet. Its singular, individually rendered allover pattern appears to advance and recede in the light toned space, providing a powerful sense of movement that becomes the focal point of the room. One is reminded of Philip Johnson’s Glass House, where the inclusion of a 17th century Baroque painting by Poussin provides the link between inside and outside. The human, organic element softens and moderates the spare modernist lines. http://www.claremontrug.com/client-home-interiors-design/ethereal-mid-19th-century-sultanabad-perfectly-complements-the-elemental-simplicity-of-a-modern-bedroom/

Upon entering the Serenity Spa, a profound sense of calm washes over you. The warm color palette, paired with natural light streaming through expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, creates a serene retreat. This striking design reimagines luxury, offering an environment that encourages complete relaxation and peace.

This project won in the 2013 Builders Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh Housing Excellence Award for Best Urban Renewal Renovation Project. The glass bowl was made in the glass studio owned by the owner which is adjacent to the residence. The mirror is a repurposed window. The door is repurposed from a boarding house. George Mendel

Larger scale, allover Bakshaish rugs are the rug choice among connoisseurs for their unusually effective interaction with a room’s larger furnishings and decor. Yet, their artistry is often just as successful- or even more so–when presented on its own, as the central feature of a space. Here, a family has become so entranced by the luminous colors and continuously changing motifs of their 3rd quarter, 19th-century Bakshaish Camelhair rug that they have chosen to place furniture only along the room’s edges, so its artistry can be experienced without interruption. In this context, its shimmering gilded ground shines with even greater potency, filling the space with its luminosity and a profound sense of continuous movement and depth. Delightful rare accents of sapphire and robin’s egg blue take on even greater presence as the relationships between each element can be explored fully and contemplated at length.

Our designer has achieved a stylish look by combining dark cabinets and light-colored marbles.

These homeowners loved to host, but their original layout was completely failing them functionally. Through our guided process, we transformed the space into a transitional masterpiece, layering crisp stacked cabinets with a character-stained oak island and a hidden forest green pantry. We backed the entire build with our Ownership Promise, absorbing the technical and logistical risks so they could navigate the renovation with absolute peace of mind. The outcome is a master-grade entertainment hub that delivers daily inspiration and a profound sense of pride the moment guests walk through the door.
