Great American LandscapesOver a span of two years we completed several projects at this Tokoma Park, Maryland property. We cleaned up the backyard, renovated an existing swale, and installed water loving plants. The following year, we replaced the old pea gravel driveway with a permeable paver driveway. While doing the driveway we encountered spongey clay that was saturated from a leaking water line. We had to install concrete piers down to virgin soil to bear the weight of the walkway. The driveway excavation had to take into account the root zones of large trees. To avoid the surface roots we used a minimal excavation design.
Our ultimate goal with this project was to ensure that the new walkways provided a safe and comfortable path for the homeowners and guest to get from their cars to porch whether parked along the street or in the driveway. To provide an extra layer of security, we added low-voltage lighting to accent trees and light the walkway, which were programmed to come on at dusk and turn off automatically at dawn.
The new plantings are native species including River Birch, Swamp Hibiscus, Blue Flag Iris, and Common Rush, that are adapted to growing in wet soils. The permeable paver driveway will reduce runoff by storing rain in gravel base while allowing it to be absorbed into the soil below. The paver surface eliminates the tracking of pea gravel into the house while allowing heels to walk on it without sinking in. The swale handles runoff from all the uphill properties and the gravel keeps it from becoming a soggy mess.
During seasonal months, snow and leaf removal are greatly eased by having a hard surface to shovel or rake. The permeable pavers used are Techo-Bloc Villagio in Shale Grey and we installed a granite Belgian block border. The biggest design challenge was enlarging the bathroom while also creating a usable and functional sitting area adjacent to their master bedroom. A few of the design highlights included; the pocket door which created an unencumbered space in the bath, a larger sized shower with no door and a lineal drain with curbless shower entry, larger format porcelain tiles, a shower niche, heated floors with a programmable thermostat, and a one piece concealed trap skirted toilet. Clipping the corner wall upon entering the sitting room softened the shape of the room and ensured comfortable walking space through the hallway into the master bedroom.
The homeowners particularly love the customizations of the stylish designed vanity which included ample space to store bath supplies in the full extension drawers and a bottom shelf for towels. The custom Benjamin Moore dark blue/grey colored cabinetry and framed mirror looks stunning with the Silestone’s ‘Pulsar’ quartz countertop and shelf pieces. They also loved the gray-blue muted marble tones of the 12”x24” shower wall field tile and chose a bright mosaic-look tile for the rear wall of the shower niche. The zone audio system extends to the entire home, and is capable of tuning to a variety of sources, including AM and FM radio, satellite and internet radio, any video source (satellite, DVD/Blu-Ray, network attached storage/NAS media, device-streamed video, etc.), as well as audio discs, MP3 players, notebook computers, network-attached media players, and handheld devices (smartphones/tablets) via streaming services. The television pictured is connected to the home's hub of smart technology, and is capable of receiving satellite programming, streaming audio/video via tablets and smartphones throughout the home, DVD/Blu-Ray movies shared throughout the home, as well as media and content stored on the home's network via network attached storage (NAS). Sound is managed through the TV itself, or via the zone audio system, with local speakers located in the ceiling throughout the home, and pictured here. During seasonal months, snow and leaf removal are greatly eased by having a hard surface to shovel or rake. The permeable pavers used are Techo-Bloc Villagio in Shale Grey and we installed a granite Belgian block border. We replaced existing broken concrete walkway with new curving flagstone walkway and connected the front steps to the driveway and side steps. All projects were consulted with the City of Takoma Park’s Urban Forest Manager, and the Montgomery County Historical Preservation Commission.

Positioned strategically, a 43" LG 4k TV graces the wall, with integrated Philips Hue lighting behind it casting a soft, ambient glow. Flanked by custom ebony veneer columns, this entertainment hub seamlessly combines modern technology with bespoke craftsmanship, creating a visual spectacle that enhances both work and leisure moments.
Lighting plays a pivotal role in setting the ambiance. Recessed square LED lights illuminate the space, while two incandescent wall sconces add a touch of warmth. All of this is seamlessly orchestrated through Lutron Caseta WiFi switches, allowing me to curate the perfect lighting atmosphere for any occasion.
Functionality meets aesthetics with Merillat cabinetry thoughtfully integrated into the design. These cabinets discreetly store away office supplies and materials, maintaining a clutter-free environment conducive to focus and creativity. The ebony veneer theme extends to the custom columns, creating a visual harmony throughout the space.
The pièce de résistance is undoubtedly the standing desk, a marvel of modern design and functionality. Its programmable feature allows for up to four memorized heights, catering to my ergonomic preferences throughout the workday. This dynamic element not only promotes a healthier work lifestyle but also symbolizes the adaptability and innovation that define my approach to interior design.

Leet ArchitectureUpon the completion of its renovations and relaunch, Videology Bar & Cinema became home to daily programmed film screenings and events, informal bar gatherings, and continued the tradition of brick-and-mortar video store renting.
Renovisions Renovating the worn master bath of this 1950’s contemporary ranch was a challenge, but the Renovisions team took the task in stride. The biggest design challenge was enlarging the bathroom while also creating a usable and functional sitting area adjacent to their master bedroom. A few of the design highlights included; the pocket door which created an unencumbered space in the bath, a larger sized shower with no door and a lineal drain with curbless shower entry, larger format porcelain tiles, a shower niche, heated floors with a programmable thermostat, and a one piece concealed trap skirted toilet. Clipping the corner wall upon entering the sitting room softened the shape of the room and ensured comfortable walking space through the hallway into the master bedroom.
The homeowners particularly love the customizations of the stylish designed vanity which included ample space to store bath supplies in the full extension drawers and a bottom shelf for towels. The custom Benjamin Moore dark blue/grey colored cabinetry and framed mirror looks stunning with the Silestone’s ‘Pulsar’ quartz countertop and shelf pieces. They also loved the gray-blue muted marble tones of the 12”x24” shower wall field tile and chose a bright mosaic-look tile for the rear wall of the shower niche. Replacing the older windows provided more natural light into both the bathroom and sitting room spaces. With spa-worthy, on-trend, creative uses of space, this ‘Renovision’ was enjoyed and appreciated by these homeowners!
