2M ArchitectureThe project began with the owner’s vision to create on their Atherton property a new home, reminiscent of the Mediterranean villas and gardens they loved to visit on European holidays. They wanted to create an oasis, a home that would nurture their creativity and foster a feeling of calm.
The design creates this sense of transition right as you enter the property, through a long, tree-lined driveway, thru a custom gate and into a gracious entry court. Walking through a formal entry garden, you arrive at a round entry tower, completing the transition from street to home. Separated into three primary zones, the main bedroom wing is a two-story volume anchoring one side of the center Living / Dining spaces, while the 2-story Library and Kitchen / Family Room anchor the other. All of the primary public spaces in the home are oriented toward the rear garden.
The home features 5,500 square feet of living space, a 3-car garage, a separate guest suite and private master sauna pavilion. Solar power, battery back-up, integrated building controls and on-site water storage are a few of the technical systems installed.
OLSON LEWIS + ArchitectsThis shingle-style home is one room “deep” throughout, so that every space has views of offshore island and rocky coastline. Casual family living spaces embrace a busy-but-barefoot lifestyle. The bright and welcoming kitchen-dining-living area is the center of the home. Formal rooms flank the front entrance hall, including the living room, interconnected dining room and library-study. Beyond the public area is fully appointed kitchen and butler’s pantry, then the casual family wing with its informal eating area, family room, porch and screened bluestone patio.

Kaplan Architects, AIAWe were asked to do a complete remodel of the main public areas of this existing ranch style home. Walls were taken down to open up the space and large doors and windows were installed to open up the the newly modeled rear garden. The kitchen was relocated and a great room was created. In the great room we captured attic space to raise the ceiling. A large amount of storage space was created with custom cabinets. A formerly outdoor courtyard space was covered with a very large custom skylight and integrated into the house as a library space.

TR2 ArchitectureThis modern Craftsman home designed by Van Lewis and Tom Russell was constructed with a structural steel frame to allow for an expansive, volumous vault in the main public spaces, Steel frames are embedded in the stone columns and ceiling coffers. Curved Glulams frame the roof over a sitting area that affords views of 3 ski resorts and the Olympic ski jumps. 2 flights of curved stairs lead to bedrooms, a guest suite, a library, and a bridge to the secluded master suite above. Upper cabinets sit directly on the countertop to allow for continuous windows at eye level around the entire kitchen.
