High ceiling alert! In this Modern Farmhouse renovation, we were asked to make this entry foyer more bright and airy. So, how’d we do it? Simple - bring in natural light from above! In this renovation, we designed new clerestory windows way up high. It took rebuilding the roof framing in the area to accomplish, but we figured that out. ? A quick design tip ... the higher you can bring natural light into a space, the deeper it can travel into a space, making the most effective use of daylight possible.

As a recently purchased home, our clients quickly decided they needed to make some major adjustments. The home was pretty outdated and didn’t speak to the young family’s unique style, but we wanted to keep the welcoming character of this Mediterranean bungalow in tact. The classic white kitchen with a new layout is the perfect backdrop for the family. Brass accents add a touch of luster throughout and modernizes the fixtures and hardware. While the main common areas feature neutral color palettes, we quickly gave each room a burst of energy through bright accent colors and patterned textiles. The kids’ rooms are the most playful, showcasing bold wallcoverings, bright tones, and even a teepee tent reading nook. MaRae Simone loves incorporating nails as accents in many of her designs. It adds an interesting masculine and industrial touch in a space. She originally received a tip that she could find these kinds of nails she envisioned from an abandoned railroad track – but once she found out that the railroad actually wasn’t abandoned, she quickly packed up her shovel and bucket and found these beauties on eBay. “There are no lengths too far for me to get what I want,” MaRae Simone says. “If I have my mind set on something, I will find a way to get it.” MaRae Simone Interiors, Marc Mauldin Photography
