Karen was an existing client of ours who was tired of the crowded and cluttered laundry/mudroom that did not work well for her young family. The washer and dryer were right in the line of traffic when you stepped in her back entry from the garage and there was a lack of a bench for changing shoes/boots. Planning began… then along came a twist! A new puppy that will grow to become a fair sized dog would become part of the family. Could the design accommodate dog grooming and a daytime “kennel” for when the family is away? Having two young boys, Karen wanted to have custom features that would make housekeeping easier so custom drawer drying racks and ironing board were included in the design. All slab-style cabinet and drawer fronts are sturdy and easy to clean and the family’s coats and necessities are hidden from view while close at hand. The selected quartz countertops, slate flooring and honed marble wall tiles will provide a long life for this hard working space. The enameled cast iron sink which fits puppy to full-sized dog (given a boost) was outfitted with a faucet conducive to dog washing, as well as, general clean up. And the piece de resistance is the glass, Dutch pocket door which makes the family dog feel safe yet secure with a view into the rest of the house. Karen and her family enjoy the organized, tidy space and how it works for them.

The client wanted to remove the tub and change it to a shower base. They also wanted to keep the tile on the floor and the walls outside of the bathtub intact. Donna, my tile designer selected a few samples for my clients to choose from. I think we nailed it with trying to make it all tie in together. Successful Master Bathroom Shower Surround Completed! The challenge was to incorporate the master bath shower with the existing decor in this beautiful rustic mountain home. Existing exterior rock and a river rock fireplace and tub surround were the starting point for the choice of materials. The existing rock colors were grays with hints of blue undertones. Pebble mosaics with the same color range were the perfect answer. The large format gray porcelain tiles look like natural stone with their realistic white veining. The results were stunning and create a seamless feeling withing the existing decor. This shower provides a brand new, updated, spacious space for the new home owners. After experiencing the less detailed approach from other contractors, these homeowners jumped at the chance to partner with the very detailed nature of our approach with clients. After expressing they didn’t think there was room for an island with seating and create more usable space, we set our samples down and said, “hold my beer”. We put our heads together and figured out just the right wall modifications and corner clips to not only give them an island with seating, a really cool dry bar area, a more efficient laundry room, but we gave them a spacious and elegant new kitchen! We assisted in helping select the perfect floor throughout the house to ensure a perfect pairing of cabinet colors. A few changes to the plan ended up leading them to take the countertop material up the backsplash and create a new windowsill. All the storage solutions addressed every frustration of the old kitchen and now each member of the family adores being in their new, beautiful and efficient spaces!
