We often come across clients looking for small space ideas. Our first recommendation is always to go bright. The depth of our glaze color adds visual interest and a bold color choice helps make a space appear larger. Posh and polished (just like the homeowner) this stunning sapphire blue bathroom will have you in awe. The owner of this amazing lake house is our friend Rachel Shingleton of Pencil Shavings Studio. Her refined design-eye coupled with our bright and bold tile transformed this small bathroom into the perfect master bath. And could you believe it? This is a super simple project! Read on to learn more about this design and how to achieve the look yourself. Another great way to open up a small bathroom is by using smaller tile! Our regular Hexagons are the great example of this - approximately 2"x2" their small size maximizes the rest of the room, and their classic shape is perfect for a bathroom floor.

During the design process it grew to having a living space above the studio, which grew to having a small house attached to the studio forming a compound. At this point it became clear to the client; the project was outgrowing the neighborhood. After re-evaluating the project, the live / work compound is currently sited in a natural protected nest with post card views of Mount Sopris & the Roaring Fork Valley. The courtyard compound consist of the central south facing piece being the studio flanked by a simple 2500 sq ft 2 bedroom, 2 story house one the west side, and a multi purpose guest wing /studio on the east side. The evolution of this compound came to include the desire to have the building blend into the surrounding landscape, and at the same time become the backdrop to create and display his sculpture. “Jess has been our architect on several projects over the past ten years. He is easy to work with, and his designs are interesting and thoughtful. The client wanted a full make-over of his daughter’s dark and cluttered bedroom. The daughter requested a pink and white palette with a touch of floral motif. We changed her single bed for a loft bed which created a reading nook and lounge area below. We added a fun pink shelving unit and lifted it up off the ground onto the wall to accommodate the floor heater. We organized her treasures and collections, installed a bookshelf for all her reading material, and created better storage in her cupboard. We recommended a fresh coat of white paint on 3 of the walls, as well as a floral wallpaper panel on the fourth wall. The Brass ceiling fixture is stylish, and the reading lamp is functional and pretty. With her custom black-out curtains she has full privacy and can sleep even after the sun comes up. The carpet creates a focal point and makes her lounge area very inviting. The chair is compact but big enough to support her well into her teens.

Our clients’ boys were outgrowing their loft bed, with one of them mattresses on the floor. The boys also needed a desk, better clothing and toy storage strategies, as well as a way of giving them both privacy. We removed the mirrored cupboard doors and replaced them with a custom curtain, because behind that curtain is a secret room for one of the boys to have quiet time in. There is lighting, books, comfy cushions, and enough privacy when he needs to be alone. His brother, with the lower bunk has his own custom curtain that can be closed off. We added a desk at the end of the bed and created a storage solution for their toys in the living room, which they share with their sister. We recommended a fresh and crisp blue paint colour which makes all the white furniture stand out. The boys have a new study area and their own little private cubby holes when they want to chill out.
