In keeping with ADA compliance guidelines, we designed reduced-height cabinetry into the playroom/kitchenette and bathroom areas, each with a deep 9″ high toe kick. We also created a zero clearance threshold shower into the master bathroom. A wheelchair radius of 78 inches allowed space for ease of movement between essential features in the bathroom, to include the sink, toilet, shower, and soaking tub. The tile was also intentionally chosen for the bathroom for its aesthetics, wearability, and easy-to-clean properties.

Strategically created to reduce urban heat island effect, provide visual focus to the landscape and tie it back to its natural park setting, this ten year old green façade fronting over the Singapore Management University earns the campus good environmental credentials, featuring veils of vines that clothe nearly half of the campus façade.
Supported through the Shreem Brzee Green Vine System, the hanging creepers are rooted in elevated planters that are watered through automated irrigation and are trained to grow over series of lightweight modular trellis panels designed provide growing support.
Since its full establishment, the Green Vine System cascades about 2.5 metres down from each storey of the building, availing a dense curtain of foliage that softens the building’s hard walls with a flexibility that envelops elegantly around its curved façade.

This Kitchen was designed to meet the needs of a chair user. The cabinet height is reduced and each wall cabinet has a pull down unit to make it easy to reach the contents. The Stainless steel doors are add to the durability of the base cabinets.

A new master bath addition doubled the original footage. Universal Design principles in the master suite feature an expanded entrance, a walk-in no threshold shower, handheld shower wand, levered handles, and French doors to the bath. The master bath addition also includes custom bead board cabinetry to house the washer and dryer, Robern medicine cabinets, LED recessed lights.

Heights and locations are important in creating an inclusive environment. Completing a drawing set to instruct contractors where items are to be positioned is critical. Items like shower hand-helds and bathroom accessories baskets need to be at heights that eliminate bending and stretching to reduce the risk of falls.

This bedroom was designed to reduce stress and support healing for families and their children with critical illnesses. We used soothing blues, bright greens, and red accents to create a sense of home, of safety, and of hope. We referenced water, animals, and nature - universal themes. The star of the room is the Makelike "Burst" wallpaper.
The furniture and fabrics are all durable and comfortable, and include: Robert Allen bench, stool, and fabrics, Lee Jofa textiles, The New Traditionalists desk via Chairish, lighting from Circa Lighting and Sonneman, custom draperies in Romo fabric, a low-profile rug from J.D. Staron, fox throw by Katy Skelton, walnut table by Dylan Design Co.; and bedding from Serena & Lily.
We are honored that Melinda Mandell Interior Design was selected to participate in “Where Hope Has a Home” at the Stanford Ronald McDonald House.
We believe in creating safe, nurturing, and healing spaces for all families!
