Completed in 1897, the Pier Hotel was built by John Waller Cockrell on the site of the old Anchor and Hope fishermen’s pub. It was part of a flurry of development in this part of Gorleston at the end of the Victorian era.
In 1896, while the hotel was under construction, the Beach Gardens and bandstand were set out in front of it, and a wooden promenade was built between the gardens and beach.
Gorleston’s distinctive brick-built lighthouse was constructed a decade earlier in 1887, and the Pavilion Theatre opened in 1901. Both are now Grade II listed buildings.

Circa "1939" art-deco canyon bungalow. Home's original kitchen had been replaced sometime in the 1980's with modest appointments. Client/Friends had asked to meet, to reach some restoration decision regarding, their lack of cabinet space, no formal laundry area and a dysfunctional guest bath. This historic home, had one art-deco trademark, that repeated in almost every room. The subtle, soothing, classic 1939 curved walls. We came to a decision to leave the curved interior wall intact. But, in order to open the space, vault the existing 8 ft. ceiling to 12 ft. and punching a 3ft. by 5ft. opening in the curved wall. This tied the kitchen, dining and living spaces together. This is a classic, timeless kitchen, now flooded with natural light, restaurant grade appliances and clean carrera marble countertops.

STACT wine racks are incredibly easy to specify and incorporate into wine cellars, wine rooms, kitchens, home bars, commercial bars, and restaurants. Our customers have found that when it comes to modern wine cellar solutions, our system offers a number of advantages versus other wine storage solutions available on the market, here are just a few:
✓ Quality - premium *furniture grade* solution is unique to the industry, with unrivalled refinement when it comes to materials, aesthetic and craftsmanship. Our panels feature a premium high-gloss painted finish (not a laminated surface). Each panel takes more than a week to complete, with meticulous attention to detail. Once numerous coats of lacquer have been applied, each panel is hand buffed to a mirror-like piano finish.
✓ Versatility - mount any way you wish, and designed to work equally well within both commercial and residential applications, our clients have found our modular system to be the most versatile, and easiest to specify, assemble, and install - whether for 9 bottles or 9,000 within a large scale wine cellar application (www.stact.co/cellars). Available on your choice of 10 finishes, mix and match STACT panels to create your own unique look (3,628,800 possible configurations).
✓ Convenience - designed for quick and easy *DIY installation*, our patented system comes ready-to-install to any drywall surface right out of the box, minimizing the costs associated with labor and installation when compared with many custom solutions you will find on the market. Avoiding the need for a dedicated wine cellar builder to produce and arrive on site for assembly and installation. In-stock items typically ship within 1 business day.
✓ Value - direct-to-client distribution model to effectively cut out retail markup. Builders and specifiers have found STACT to be a fraction of the price of what it would cost to develop and produce a comparable custom solution. Plus currently we are offering *free shipping worldwide*.
✓ Design pedigree - created by 2012 ICFF winning designer Eric Pfeiffer, our patented prefabricated ready-to-assemble modular design is unique to the industry.
✓ Space-saving - highest bottle capacity on the market (10.7 bottles / sq ft). Each panel supports 9-12 bottles depending on how they are configured.
✓ Security - superior bottle stability, versus other wall-mounted wine storage solutions on the market. The aircraft grade aluminum bottle support structure ensures a lower center of gravity there is a more substantial portion of the bottle resting below the contact points. Thus a minimalist design aesthetic is retained, while eliminating the need for unnecessary and unsightly materials/clutter such as rubber gaskets, straps, etc.

Phoenix's food scene is vibrant and thriving, but also one of the most closely watched in the country. Health inspectors in Maricopa County are strict, and customers expect spotless dining spaces.
To stay competitive, restaurant owners and food vendors must stay on top of evolving health codes, sanitation protocols, and food safety benchmarks. That starts with a firm grip on restaurant cleaning safety standards. Ignoring sanitation rules risks more than bad reviews. It invites citations, customer complaints, and operational shutdowns.
Whether you're operating a food truck or a restaurant, following these Phoenix cleaning standards helps you stay compliant, pass health inspections, and build customer trust.
Importance of a Clean Phoenix Restaurant that Follows Food Health and Safety Standards
The restaurant industry in Phoenix operates under strict oversight. The Maricopa County Environmental Services Department conducts regular inspections, and violations can result in fines or closures. In this climate, restaurant cleaning is not just a hygiene standard. It is a business-critical measure.
Proper food handling and establishment cleaning protocols reduce the risk of foodborne illnesses, control pests, protect equipment, and keep your staff safe. Inconsistent practices, on the other hand, can quickly become liabilities.
Start With the Food Code
Phoenix food vendors must comply with the 2017 FDA Food Code as adopted by Maricopa County. This includes rules on:
- Sanitizing food-contact surfaces after each use
- Maintaining proper water temperatures for dishwashing
- Cleaning restrooms frequently and keeping them stocked
- Storing cleaning chemicals away from prep areas
- Daily: Wipe prep tables, mop floors, clean grills, sanitize cutting boards
- Weekly: Deep clean kitchen hoods, polish cooking equipment, disinfect drains
- Monthly: Check pest control measures, clean freezer coils, and inspect HVAC filters
- Using the right sanitizers and PPE
- Logging cleaning times and who performed the task
- Identifying signs of mold, grease buildup, or rodent activity
- Conducting thorough surface cleaning to ensure all food-contact surfaces are sanitized regularly
- Food-safe and non-corrosive
- Effective against norovirus, salmonella, and E. coli
- Clearly labeled and stored in original containers
- Seal gaps around doors and pipes
- Store dry goods in sealed, elevated containers
- Keep outdoor waste bins locked and distanced from entry points
- Record cleaning completion in real time
- Alert managers when tasks are missed
- Keep a historical record for inspections
- Is certified and understands the Arizona food codes
- Provides documented service reports
- Offers customized cleaning plans
- Offers flexible scheduling around your operating hours
- Cross-contamination prevention: Regularly clean food prep surfaces and tools, and use separate equipment for raw meats, vegetables, and ready-to-eat foods. Proper cleaning prevents any contact with food that could lead to cross-contamination and affects food quality.
- Temperature monitoring: While not directly related to cleaning, maintaining proper food temperature is essential. Hot foods should be stored above 140°F, and cold foods below 40°F. Regularly monitor temperatures and clean temperature gauges to ensure accuracy.
- Proper storage: Use clean storage containers and shelving for food storage, keeping items off the floor. Ensure all food is sealed and labeled to avoid contamination risks and comply with food safety standards.

In this project, our clients purchased an existing restaurant fraught with stormwater management issues on the property. Runoff from an adjacent state highway and parking lot regularly flooded the kitchen. Additionally, a man-made pond on the property had become a problematic breeding ground for mosquitos that virtually prohibited outdoor dining during the summer. Both challenges restricted the restaurant from operating at its fullest potential. Our design/build team’s goals were to address the water runoff and mosquito issues using environmentally and financially sustainable practices. Lowering the grades around the building and parking, we were able to direct the runoff into a dry streambed enriched with water-worn cobbles and river stones and planted banks. We addressed the mosquito problem by increasing the pond’s depth, adding an aeration system, and planting the banks with wildflowers. By raising the outdoor dining, guests now overlook the pond and pleasing landscape. Natural breezes at this higher level help alleviate mosquitosl.

Please send us a message or contact us for custom orders - barudecor.com/custom-order/ Please include the dimensions, wood preference, and delivery location. For reference, this countertop was made of solid black walnut, butcher block style.
Made from solid premium wood, our countertops are a perfect complement to your homes and businesses. Whether you’re looking to revamp your kitchen, bars, and restaurants to give a luxurious vibe, our custom countertops are made with natural material and give a rich appearance. They add value to your space and create a more inviting space.
We only work with premium-grade woods like Teak, Walnut, White Oak, Ash, and Maple. Our pieces are completely customizable in terms of dimensions, edge designs, and finishes. We also have a CNC machine for making any cutouts precisely.
Every statement piece is handcrafted in our shop based in San Diego using only the finest quality hardwood. We place a lot of care and experience into each one of our pieces for years of memories to come. Our slabs are sustainably sourced from different regions in the US, Central & South America and we work closely with our clients to select them.
**Handmade item - Each piece is Custom Built To Order and finishes can vary, hence your piece will have a slight variation from the item shown in the photo as every piece of wood is different.
We ship to all US via truck freight and all our tables are wrapped carefully and placed inside a wooden crate with high-quality insulation to ensure safe arrival.
LEAD TIME: Our lead time varies from time to time but it is approximately 3-5 weeks plus 7-10 transit. We will let you know prior to placing the order. Rush orders are available for an additional fee depending on the project.
FINISH: We work with different options for Residential and Commercial use such as Rubio Monocoat, Osmo Polix Hardwax oil, and Commercial Grade Conversion Varnish. Our finish maintains the natural look and feel of the wood, all while offering protection and durability.
Here are some recommendations for keeping your countertop beautiful for a good time. Like every wood, maintenance depends a lot on how it is used. No matter what kind of sealant we apply liquids always win (with only one exception, an epoxy coating that looks like plastic, not very attractive).
- I recommend always using coasters, keeping hot pans away from the surface, and never letting water sits on them.
- For cleaning just a light mixture of soap and water and NEVER use harsh products like comet or Scotch Bright pads.
If you follow the recommendations the countertop will look fresh and clean for at least 2 years and then you may want to consider re-sanding and coating again which is super easy with Rubio Monocoat oil finish.
There is also a great maintenance oil developed by Rubio Monocoat - “Rubio Monocoat Renew” that refreshes, restores, and protects surfaces treated with Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C (the one we use for all our furniture).
It’s recommended whenever the surface feels too dry or rough and it is super easy to apply in 3 steps:
1- Clean and dry the surface
2- Apply the oil using cloth rags, brush, or sponge
3- With kitchen tissue or cotton cloth remove all the excess oil within 10-15 min.
The surface should be dry after 6-8 hours.
