The 5,600 square foot Willow Creek ranch home blends industrial and organic design elements for a modern but classic design scheme. For an aesthetic that is simultaneously traditional and contemporary, By Design Interiors utilized Banker Wire’s fine woven wire mesh pattern S-12 in two separate areas of the home—the French Country inspired kitchen, and the game room bar—to provide unexpected touch points while creating a cohesive design experience. The modern French Country inspired kitchen was designed from the ground up. As a central point in the open concept home, the theme of organic-meets-industrial originates here. Specified in an antique brass finish, Banker Wire’s S-12—a fine woven wire mesh pattern—was fabricated into the front of the kitchen cabinets. The robust woven wire mesh provides a warm aesthetic touch to the surrounding neutral color palette while also giving a near opaque cover to the storage space. The highly faceted surface of S-12 both absorbs and reflects the colors of its surroundings, adding texture and depth to the striking design. “Banker Wire’s S-12 provides the integral industrial element in the kitchen area, helping to create the high/low aesthetic of the space—accentuating the organic materials, such as the leathered quartzite countertop island and single-sided waterfall edge, and the custom zinc vent range hood,” says Ayca Stiffel, Senior Interior Designer, Design Interiors. “The nearby dining room chandelier, grey-white walls, and natural light add a softness to the space, when contrasted with the industrial look and feel of the mesh.” Departing from the traditional French touchpoints found in the kitchen, By Design Interiors leaned more heavily on industrial accents to realize the custom game room bar. The homeowner’s requested a fun “industrial” space different from any home bar they had seen before. Using Banker Wire’s fine woven wire mesh pattern S-12, multiple sliding screen doors were crafted to create customizable storage space for the bar. The antique brass finish of the mesh reflects the warm light, adding a lighter tone that contrasts the chocolate browns and matte black finishes of the surrounding space. Leather chairs and metal work on the foot bars, bar front and frame compliment the woven wire mesh, creating a cohesive environment that is both unique and welcoming. When using battery operated flicker candles, we always mix sizes AS WELL AS MANUFACTURERS when displayed here in the photo. Different manufacturers create the programmed flicker effect to their best knowledge of how they perceive flame. So when you purchase from at least 3 artificial flame candle manufacturers the effect can be quite striking. You have varied speeds and pulsations which give your room the movement of a realistic flame glow. If the client had more space in the budget, we would have recommended the original flame candle called "Dream Candle" Virtually indistinguishable from actual burning candles, they combine electromagnetics and LED lights to simulate the look of a flickering flame with robust depth and realistic movement. This modern architectural masterpiece is a striking glass pavilion set dramatically on the edge of a cliff. With floor-to-ceiling windows and a minimalist design, the space maximizes natural light and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The expansive cantilevered platform, supported by a robust concrete structure, complements the clean lines of the flat roof while emphasizing openness and connection to nature. Ideal for gatherings, exhibitions, or contemplative retreats, this building seamlessly blends contemporary aesthetics with the thrill of its unique, adventurous location. The combination of transparent glass walls and bold structural elements creates a statement piece that redefines modern living in harmony with its environment.

Terrazzo is a quite a bit different from the natural stone floors we most commonly work with. It’s a type of flooring material that was made popular by Venetian builders in Italy in the 1920s, but is ultimately descended from styles of design that date back hundreds of years. A typical Terrazzo floor consists of chips of marble or granite set in concrete and polished to result in a smooth surface. This Terrazzo floor, installed in the hallway of a property in Bridgend, South Wales, was in relatively good physical condition, but it had clearly lost its shine due to the build-up of dirt and muck over the years. In fact, it was first installed in around 1940! The owner was keen to have it rejuvenated to its best possible condition, so they asked me to come in to see what I could do. My first course of action was to apply Tile Doctor Pro Clean liberally across the floor and leave it to dwell for a short period. This is a high alkaline cleaner that is designed to deal with light to moderate soil build-up, and to strip away any old sealer remaining on the floor. I scrubbed the product in using a black pad fitted to a rotary machine and vacuumed up the resulting cleaning with a wet-vac machine. Next, to restore the shine to the floor, I undertook a process known as burnishing, which involves the application of diamond encrusted polishing pads. We will typically start with a Coarse grit pad to level off any uneven areas of the floor and grind down any particularly stubborn marks and stains. Then, we gradually refine the polish on the floor using Medium and Fine grit pads. A small amount of water is used as lubrication with each pad. After I had finished applying the first three pads in our four-pad system, I gave the floor a thorough rinse and left it to dry overnight. I returned to the property the next day and immediately ran some damp tests to check for excess moisture issues, which one might expect with an old floor like this one. Thankfully, the floor proved dry – and I could finish the burnishing process with the fourth and final Very Fine diamond encrusted burnishing pad, which achieved a beautiful shine finish. Finally, I sealed the floor with three coats of Tile Doctor Colour Grow, an impregnating sealer which provides robust protection and enhances the coloured patterns in the Terrazzo. As you can see from the photos above, the floor is looking so much more colourful and bright after a deep clean, polish and a fresh seal. The customer was over the moon! The home is filled with custom touches: the wide plank White Oak floors merge artfully with the octagonal slate tile in the mudroom; the fireplace mantel and the Great Room’s center support column are both raw steel I-beams; beautiful Doug Fir solid timbers define the welcoming traditional front porch and delineate the main social spaces; and a cozy built-in Walnut breakfast booth is the perfect spot for a Sunday morning cup of coffee. The two-story custom floating tread stair wraps sinuously around a signature chandelier, and is flooded with light from the giant windows. It arrives on the second floor at a covered front balcony overlooking a beautiful public park. The master bedroom features a fireplace, coffered ceilings, and its own private balcony. Each of the 3-1/2 bathrooms feature gorgeous finishes, but none shines like the master bathroom. With a vaulted ceiling, a stunningly tiled floor, a clean modern floating double vanity, and a glass enclosed “wet room” for the tub and shower, this room is a private spa paradise.
