Donald Lococo ArchitectsSubsequent additions are covered with living green walls to deemphasize stylistic conflicts imposed on a 1940’s Tudor and become backdrop surrounding a kitchen addition. On the interior, further added architectural inconsistencies are edited away, and the language of the Tudor’s original reclaimed integrity is referenced for the addition. Sympathetic to the home, windows and doors remain untrimmed and stark plaster walls contrast the original black metal windows. Sharp black elements contrast fields of white. With a ceiling pitch matching the existing and chiseled dormers, a stark ceiling hovers over the kitchen space referencing the existing homes plaster walls. Grid members in windows and on saw scored paneled walls and cabinetry mirror the machine age windows as do exposed steel beams. The exaggerated white field is pierced by an equally exaggerated 13 foot black steel tower that references the existing homes steel door and window members. Glass shelves in the tower further the window parallel. Even though it held enough dinner and glassware for eight, its thin members and transparent shelves defy its massive nature, allow light to flow through it and afford the kitchen open views and the feeling of continuous space. The full glass at the end of the kitchen reveres a grouping of 50 year old Hemlocks. At the opposite end, a window close to the peak looks up to a green roof.
MainStreet Design BuildThe existing sparse exterior of this Cape Cod home left much to be desired. The red brick, brown siding and dark front entry gave it a dreary look in need of a total makeover. MainStreet owner and lead designer, Steve Ramaekers, had a vision from the moment he first saw the home.
New Marvin true divided light windows in a stone finish were just the beginning. A complete change from the old cedar siding to a James Hardie cement siding “smooth side out” with 7″ reveal and real machine split Western Red Cedar Shake shingle siding with 7″ reveal started to make the home take shape.
The new carriage style garage doors with beautiful lantern style lights on either side, provide a focal point and is now a main feature for a passerby. New Board-N-Batten Style Shutters along with 6″ 20.44 oz half round copper gutters , 4″ round seamless copper downspouts and fittings gave the home the finishing touch. All new exterior colors took the home from drab and bland to it’s new look with a warm inviting feel and great curb appeal!

Quarry MillThis beautiful home showcases the Quarry Mill's Concord mosaic-style natural granite thin stone veneer. Concord is a mosaic style natural granite thin stone veneer. The individual pieces of stone showcase irregular and random shapes characteristic of the mosaic style. The colors are a beautiful mix of blues, greys, and blacks. Concord shows both the split face and bedface of the natural stone slabs but the pieces have not been processed by our machines. The veneer is cut from the pieces of stone that fracture as a result of the quarrying process. The irregular shaped pieces that are suitable for the saw are collected and cut into thin veneer. The reduced processing is reflected in the price point making Concord one of our most affordable premium natural stone veneer options.
Daniel Antes MarquetryThe flooring that was originally envisioned for this house wasn't Wood Floor of the Year-caliber. When Steve Brattin, president at SVB Wood Floors in Grandview, Mo., got involved in the project, the designers were discussing a simple machine-sanded heart pine or reclaimed wood floor. But once Brattin visited the site—an old world traditional estate set on acreage with its own private lake—he knew it deserved more than a typical floor. "I chatted with the designers and said I would love to meet with the homeowners and have them in our showroom," he recalls. "I said I would really like to do something artistic with it."
Brattin's mind was already envisioning the possibilities—something he says usually happens for him within a half hour of walking through a space. "I don't know how certain things come to me," he says, adding that often he draws things out and the designs don't end up being in the clients' budget. That wasn't the case here, however, and the final plans for the flooring called for five designs in various areas, including this Bordeaux parquet in the foyer.
With the designs finalized, Brattin turned to Distinctive Floors' (Nashville, Tenn.) Dan Antes to create the walnut flooring, which called for hand-beveling with a circle-sawn and wire-brushed surface; in some areas the flooring was 10-inch plank. The width presented a challenge for Antes, as he had planned to contract out the circle-sawing, but the company he had in mind could handle widths only up to 81⁄2 inches. He decided he would have to do it himself. "We spent maybe $1,500 modifying $20,000 worth of equipment to end up with this awesome distressed product," he says. Due to a tight time frame to complete the job, once the flooring was milled, it was shipped to WD Flooring (Laona, Wis.) to be finished with hardwax oil—a choice Antes says he loves for its maintainability.
The actual installation of all 3,000 square feet of flooring was uneventful, Brattin says, crediting his crew, experienced with high-end projects, for a great job. "They had a blast," he says. "They had so much fun out there on the project, and they do it quite frequently; it comes naturally for them at this point."
Given the complexity of this job, from scribing around stone to large-scale chevron and mixed media, that's high praise. Organizare by ClarissaThe custom designed craft table I created. Seven by four ft. solid 2" inch thick rustic wood top. The four sides of the table are designed keeping practicality and functionality in mind. Front side provides ample space for two people to sit comfortably with height adjustable stools. One side of the table has three adjustable shelves for extra scrapbooks, books, magazines and craft books storage. The other side was designed with a pull out shelf that stores the sewing machine and two baskets concealed behind two doors. Right above these doors is a solid wood pull-out shelf that the sewing machine would sit on when in use. It was carefully designed to be at a comfortable height for the user when sewing. The side facing the window has eight labeled drawers with partitions to hold ribbons, embellishments and other scrapbooking items.
