Award-Winning Bathroom Design (1st Place) by Gary Potter, CKD, CBD. Featured in Better Homes & Gardens, September/October 2008 Edition. These homeowners were tired of sharing a main bathroom with their two children and decided to renovate their home by adding a second floor to their 1950's Etobicoke bungalow. This allowed them to carve out a space for an ensuite bathroom. The influence for this spa-like bathroom was inspired by a trip the homeowners recently returned from, where they celebrated an anniversary at a luxurious resort in Bali. The natural elements and tones in this space, such as the cherry cabinetry, the river rock that flows from the shower to the vanity, the earthy granite countertop and threshold and natural light emitted from the skylight overhead all contribute to a feeling of serenity and relaxation.

After many years of careful consideration and planning, these clients came to us with the goal of restoring this home’s original Victorian charm while also increasing its livability and efficiency. From preserving the original built-in cabinetry and fir flooring, to adding a new dormer for the contemporary master bathroom, careful measures were taken to strike this balance between historic preservation and modern upgrading. Behind the home’s new exterior claddings, meticulously designed to preserve its Victorian aesthetic, the shell was air sealed and fitted with a vented rainscreen to increase energy efficiency and durability. With careful attention paid to the relationship between natural light and finished surfaces, the once dark kitchen was re-imagined into a cheerful space that welcomes morning conversation shared over pots of coffee. Every inch of this historical home was thoughtfully considered, prompting countless shared discussions between the home owners and ourselves. The stunning result is a testament to their clear vision and the collaborative nature of this project. Photography by Radley Muller Photography Design by Deborah Todd Building Design Services

Landkamer Art / Avenida Triptych 007 • This series began in a more sparse mode as shown in this piece and was primarily inspired by the swaying California coastal kelp forests. There’s a blog post about that on my site. But an additional layer of meaning was on my mind—a frightening incident when very young where I was pushed off a Minnesota lake dock and needed to be pulled out of the lake quickly as I could not swim. This series references both inspiration moments into one positive healing work. There is the beauty and power of the swaying ocean kelp linked to the turbulence and fright of being knocked into the lake and looking up to the water’s surface from below. Unintentionally the result is uplifting beauty and abundant positive energy for me. Like three frames from a film, the triptych panels communicate with each other. My hope is viewers can relate to where the work is coming from and share a positive emotional bond with it that puts them in a better space as well. • View more new art on Instagram: @landkamerart • Custom size prints available. This large guest bedroom suite showcases the not so subtle differences between clutter and collection. After sitting in boxes for years, a lifetime of sports memorabilia are utilized to give this wonderful room a story to tell. We designed custom built-in cabinetry to display the amazing treasures of authentic steins and family photos amongst sports nostalgia, books, trophies, autographed caps, bats and balls. This "man cave" living space fits perfectly into this contemporary home and gives our client reason to smile. As you can see, the entry, formal dining room, wet bar, and master bedroom also share an intentional and tailored design aesthetic. The design trick is not to "over-decorate" and edit your collection so that it does not overwhelm the space. Our client told us "your team should be very proud of the incredible home that you created for this old sports fan. Thank you for making it all happen."
