This project is a customer case located in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The client's residence is a 100-square-meter house. The client and their family embarked on an entrepreneurial journey in Chiang Mai three years ago and settled down there. As wanderers far from their homeland, they hold a deep longing for their roots. This sentiment inspired the client's desire to infuse their home with a tropical vacation vibe.
The overall theme of the client's home is a blend of South Asian and retro styles with a touch of French influence. The extensive use of earthy tones coupled with vintage green hues creates a nostalgic atmosphere. Rich coffee-colored hardwood flooring complements the dark walnut and rattan furnishings, enveloping the entire space in a South Asian retro charm that exudes a strong Southeast Asian aesthetic.
The client particularly wanted to select a retro-style lighting fixture for the dining area. Based on the dining room's overall theme, we recommended this vintage green glass pendant lamp with lace detailing. When the client received the products, they expressed that the lighting fixtures perfectly matched their vision. The client was extremely satisfied with the outcome.
I'm sharing this case with everyone in the hopes of providing inspiration and ideas for your own interior decoration projects.

The kitchen may be the heart of a home, but the dining room is where the family gathers to enjoy special occasions, create and pass on traditions, and savour each other’s company free from distractions. The family behind this particular dining room enjoys doing just that.
When they are not traveling the world, Matthew and Anna (names changed) love to cook meals at home with their teenage daughter, entertain family and friends, and live amongst their cherished travel souvenirs and heirlooms. Their dining room, however, was far from the perfect backdrop for these experiences.
Before: Dining Room:
When Matthew and Anna contacted us, they imagined a space that would comfortably seat 8 to 10 people and incorporate their beautiful inherited dining table and sideboard in a fresh, modern way. Above all, they wanted a dining room that they would feel proud to share.
They worked with us to design, lightly renovate, and furnish their dining room and adjacent living space. Now, the room is nothing short of inviting and elevated.
Classic Yet Contemporary Dining Room:
Viewed from the living area, the dining room is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Matthew and Anna wanted dark blue for the walls, and we couldn’t have been happier to find the perfect shade for them. By leaning darker, this rich blue creates the perception of depth, making the room feel enticing, comfortable and secluded.
The previous built-ins were underwhelming and lacked function, so we designed wider, taller, double sided cabinets that integrated the existing bulk-head, and then accessorized the shelves with the family’s travel finds, books, and decor. Topping these units with brass art lights not only blends contemporary and traditional styles, it also draws attention to the dining table’s modern show-stopping chandelier. You can’t miss it.
Inside the dining room, the effect is equally impressive: enveloping yet spacious, warm yet cool, classic yet contemporary. We incorporated their heirloom pieces seamlessly into the design thanks to the 1:2 ratio. For every traditional piece, we introduced two more modern or contemporary pieces — clean lines, subtle curves, and lustrous brass hardware. The result is a collected yet updated look.
In any room with dark walls, lighting is of the utmost importance. We placed a mirror adjacent to the window to reflect natural light throughout the room, and we kept the trim and ceiling white for brightness. To provide maximum versatility, we provided multiple light sources that can be adjusted to create different levels of light to suit any mood or occasion. These include: pot lights and a chandelier on dimmers, a sculptural trilight lamp on the sideboard, and art lights on the bookcases and above important art pieces.
The built-ins have another surprise waiting inside this special dining room:
Double-sided built-ins: dining room shelving and living room shelving.
Rather than keep them white like we did in the living room, we painted the back wall of the book cases the same dark blue as the walls in the rest of the room. This reduces the contrast with the surrounding walls and emphasizes the white outline of the cabinets. We also love the dark blue walls’ role as a beautiful backdrop for this family’s treasures. The brass accessories and hand-painted vases and bowls feel like part of the experience.
Of course, what is beauty without function? It may not look like it, but the base storage is only accessible from the dining room side. The units include deep cabinets for storing serving ware, as well as another delightful surprise: silverware drawers lined in luxurious navy velvet!
Lastly, we designed this beautiful nook for their heirloom sideboard. From afar, the wall looks as if it has texture and perhaps a touch of shine. Up close, you will notice that it is actually navy blue wallpaper with tiny golden dots. This unique touch accentuates the brass in the room touches throughout the space.. The room feels curated, contemporary, and full of character.
Words of Praise:
Anna and Matthew were thrilled with their new dining room and with the design process itself, which is always the highest compliment. They said:
“Working with Lori and her team at Simply Home Decorating was a great experience. The design they came up with was both beautiful and practical for our family. Renovations can be stressful but working with Simply Home made the process much more pleasant.
“Simply Home's project management and their longstanding relationships with reliable trades meant we could relax, knowing that everything was taken care of. If an issue arose, the entire Simply Home team was quick to address it. They were excellent at communicating with us—we never felt like we didn't know what was going on. We would highly recommend working with Simply Home Decorating.”
Thank you, Matthew and Anna! We are honoured to have been part of your journey and wish your family many happy memories in these new spaces.

A family of passionate athletes and sports aficionados embarked on a remarkable endeavor alongside our team and Studio M Merge. Their vision? To breathe new life into their outdated mid-century modern home and neglected pool, resulting in the dramatic “Sports Enthusiasts’ Hideaway.” The transformative journey focused on opening the interior spaces out toward the beautiful gardens and amenities. The renewed house features expanded open-plan living areas, a new bedroom, and a reimagined primary bath. An attached ADU added a sports bar and a flexible office space that can double as a private guest bedroom. The outdoor spaces were brought to life with the addition of expansive decks, inviting patios, a horseshoe pit, a basketball half-court, refreshing plunge pools, and a lush sports lawn. A pool house artfully frames the view from the pool to the neighboring golf course. This family of five finds themselves immersed in their expanded home and experiential outdoor hideaway. Every element has been thoughtfully designed to cater to their favorite activities, providing a peaceful haven where they can fully indulge their shared passion for sports.

Hillcrest is very proud to present this custom country estate. Our journey to provide this home for our customer started with our Realty division searching for land for them. After we found the gorgeous countryside site with an old pond, wetland and pastures we managed complex re-zoning and permitting. Because every direction offers distinct views, we spent a lot of time with our customers to place the home and create a layout that maximizes views from every living space. Our design department created a two story main dwelling with an open concept, modern country style custom kitchen, dining area with two sided fireplace, and abutting three season porch. With the kitchen being the hub, it accesses the office, front hall foyer, stairs to the second floor, and the breezeway to the auxiliary part of the home. The living room is semi-open of the dinette, and has chauffeured ceilings. The second floor contains the master suite with a very luxurious bathroom and stunning views. The other two bedrooms also provide great, far flung views. The auxiliary part of the home is perhaps the most unique part of this estate. It offers a long hallway with glass to the south overlooking a large patio with a hot tub. The other side of the hallway has a large laundry with a dumbwaiter to return the laundry upstairs, a shower and powder room for direct access from the hot tub and swimming pond, and a large mudroom. It terminates in the rear foyer with access to the garage and the crown jewel, the sports bar. The customer wanted a brew pub to make and serve his home made beer. The brew pub contains heated, stained concrete floors, concrete counters, and very tall vaulted ceilings. The walls and ceilings are clad with wire brushed grey stained pine and lots of windows overlook the hot tub patio and 270 degree views. The customer also wanted a barn, as both he and she grew up on a farm and shared the love of barns with Hillcrest’s owner. We designed the “perfect gentleman’s barn”, of course red with white trim and with a covered porch which extends on one side into a small greenhouse. Hillcrest also designed and built extensive landscaping features including a winding plank walk to a large swimming pond in the woods. Because of the ample ground water, we created a second swimming pond next to the house which is stays crystal clear and ended up functioning as an outdoor pool.

Project Overview:
Our team embarked on a thoughtful renovation journey, transforming an aging deck into a harmonious blend of indoor-outdoor living. The goal was to create a space that honors tradition while embracing modern comfort.
Existing Deck Transformation:
Original Deck:
The existing deck, weathered by years of memories, retained its original purpose—a place where sunlight dances and conversations flow.
Uncovered and open to the elements, it stood as a testament to countless gatherings and sun-kissed afternoons.
Screen Porch Conversion:
Half of the deck underwent a magical metamorphosis, emerging as a screen porch—a sanctuary where the outdoors and indoors intertwine.
The screen porch now cradles moments of quiet contemplation, protected from bugs and gentle rain.
Design Considerations:
Seamless Transition:
The transition between the deck and the screen porch is seamless, honoring the house’s original footprint.
The shared boundary invites a gentle flow—a dance of light and shadow.
Cantilevered Roof:
To preserve the deck’s sunlit expanse, we cantilevered the roof over the screen porch.
This architectural choice ensures that both spaces coexist harmoniously, each with its unique purpose.
Functional Harmony:
The deck, now partially covered, continues to serve as an alfresco haven for sunbathing, stargazing, and laughter.
The screen porch beckons with its screened walls, inviting cozy evenings and whispered secrets.
Legacy and Connection:
This renovation isn’t just about wood and nails; it’s about honoring the past and embracing the future. The parents, their children, and grandchildren—all find solace here, under the same sky, within these transformed walls.

A family of three designed the ideal home to age in place and care for their adult son.
Designing a Unique Space
For years, the Bronks had a clear idea of what their master suite should look like. Their unique design even began appearing on HGTV shows, much to their amusement. The layout was essential to accommodating their schedules without disturbing each other's sleep.
The house is ingeniously split into two units. The main living area features three bedrooms—one serves as Dale's home office, another as his wife's art studio, and the third is their master suite. Connected by a wall, there's a separate 700-square-foot, one-bedroom apartment with its own laundry, kitchen, and living room.
This separate apartment is home to their unique needs adult son. "Having a place where he's connected to the family but has his own autonomous space was crucial," Dale explained. The design includes a discreet connecting door for emergencies, promoting his independence while ensuring safety.

Collaboration with Reynard Custom Homes
With their master suite and apartment designs in place, the Bronks faced challenges with the rest of the layout. That's when Dale turned to Reynard Custom Homes. "I found Reynard through LinkedIn. We'd been in touch from a previous project, so I reached out. They were instrumental in bridging the gap between our ideas," Dale shared.
James from Reynard Custom Homes worked closely with the Bronks to refine their plans. "We had the apartment on one side and the master suite on the other. James helped us create a cohesive design that brought everything together beautifully."

A Dream Realized
After two years of meticulous planning and construction, the Bronk family's dream home was finally completed in 2024. Dale expressed his gratitude, saying, "Working with Reynard Custom Homes was a fantastic experience. They helped turn our vision into reality."
As Dale and his family settled into their new home, they looked forward to many happy years ahead, enjoying the thoughtful design and personalized touches that made their house truly theirs.
The Bronk family's journey with Reynard Custom Homes is a testament to the power of collaboration, vision, and meticulous planning. Their new home in Cumming, GA, stands as a perfect example of how dreams can indeed become reality with the right team and a clear vision.

The challenge for this garden was the side entrance to the house. We needed to make it clear which way to go and make the journey to the front door interesting and welcoming. This meant there had to be something happening in the garden year round. Foliage plays a big role in this garden!
The pathways were designed to provide a gracious entrance and be wide enough in some spaces to allow for neighbors to gather outside the home office balcony.
The backyard needed to accommodate the trampoline, food gardening, outdoor dining and entertaining. Who knew a trampoline could function as a room divider?! The raised beds are at a comfortable height and depth for easy tending and keeping pets out. The result is the whole family can share the yard yet every function has a zone of it's own. And, you always know what season it is!

These dual bathrooms share similar foot prints and similar sleek styles with Prairie Maple Wellborn Cabinets and Journey Onyx shower surround and vanity top. Inside the shower is Forte Collection fixtures from Kohler. The toilet is a an elongated Cimarron Collection from Kohler. The homeowners did a fantastic job in picking selections that made both bathrooms stand out on their own.

Originally a kitchen seating area within a former golf clubhouse, this space was masterfully reimagined into a formal dining room capable of seating up to ten guests while honoring a timeless, traditional aesthetic. We preserved the existing ceiling alcove color as the foundation for the room’s design palette, reinforcing this connection with a textured navy sisal wallpaper that adds depth, warmth, and visual interest. To ensure the space was as functional as it is beautiful, we selected a long dining table with a leaf extension, perfectly proportioned for both intimate dinners and larger gatherings. We paired this with softly upholstered chairs for comfort and introduced a contemporary chandelier to provide a refined, upscale contrast to the traditional elements. A key design highlight was our approach to technology. We successfully integrated a picture television into a gallery wall featuring the homeowners’ personal travel photography. When not in use, the television blends seamlessly into this curated display, preserving the room's character. A custom-crafted rug grounds the space, completing the design with precision and softness. We are thrilled to share that this project was honored with First Place in the People's Choice Awards. At Clark Team Designs, we specialize in "Real-Life Luxury"—blending beauty and function perfectly for the way you actually live. By handling every meticulous detail, we ensure that the journey from vision to reality is an effortless, enjoyable experience for our clients.
