It was key for the homeowner maintained the original footprint of the home with full front to back views of the sound. Idaho Springs, CO | Set amidst the towering pines of Colorado’s gold country, a couple and their girls return to the hills they grew up in. The home is envisioned as a simple and durable yet elegant mountain home. The site, a former mining claim, slopes steeply to the south and the home reaches out to capture the surrounding alpine views.

This kitchen was the dream kitchen for these homeowners. This now expansive space was originally only half the size of what you see now! However, opening up this space was no simple task, as one single wall seemed to have every item you wish to not have in a wall you plan on moving, from an HVAC return, electrical, as well as being a load-bearing wall! Nonetheless, we turned this vision into a reality, and bumped out that wall! This now expanded kitchen is full of cabinet storage, countertop working space, and a beautiful island with seating. This kitchen is now a perfect entertainment space with the exact function as well as style for these homeowners to enjoy for years to come!

This classic post-and-beam house sits on a ridge in the Riviera neighborhood of Santa Barbara, CA. With stunning views of Gibraltar Rock, Mission Canyon, and Cielito Overlook, the house’s original designers sited it perfectly and implemented an elegantly simple structural system based on a clear design vision. Unfortunately, several subsequent owners lacked that same clarity and made questionable remodeling choices based on passing style fads, effectively turning the house into something it was not and – most perplexing of all – turning their backs to the majesty of the surrounding mountains and valley.
Working with the new owner, who saw through the noise of these misguided remodels, we set out to return the house to its roots and recreate its rhythmic geometry and interior flow. We added new wall-to-wall double sliding doors that open to the expansive northern views, bringing space and light to the living, dining, and kitchen areas and providing easy access to the surrounding natural environment. We also reconsidered the color palette and materials, simplified detailing and trim, and highlighted interior focal points such as the original slump block fireplace and newly remodeled kitchen. The house now entertains easily and provides a comfortable and gracious living space for its owner and guests.

Saving money doesn't have to sacrifice great style. The full glass and oak door leads into the front entry / laundry room and gives you a peek of the orange front door.
