This exquisite home beautifully marries the rustic charm of traditional post-and-beam construction with the elegance of modern luxury. Central to the design is a deep respect for the site’s heritage. The home incorporates reclaimed wood and stone salvaged from the property alongside new materials, carefully integrated into the architecture to preserve the narrative of a Pennsylvania bank barn. The thoughtful use of materials ensures the legacy of the barn is honored while elevating it to meet the standards of modern living. Serving as a testament to timeless craftsmanship, the converted barn residence features post-and-beam construction. The home’s design offers a harmonious blend of intimate living spaces and expansive entertaining areas. The owner said "any color but white" for her farmhouse kitchen country kitchen. Earthy and elemental materials are selected for the home that reference the barn without directly mimicking it. Wooden members found inside the barn and from other barns bridge ceilings and are used in floors along with rustic slate adding to a sense of simplicity to the farmhouse design.

Cape Cod; Dennis, MA This open-concept living and dining area features a bright and inviting Cape Cod aesthetic, creating a perfect space for both relaxation and entertaining. The living room is anchored by two tufted yellow armchairs covered in a sunbrella fabric with navy piping, which provide a vibrant pop of color. The chairs are paired with a patterned upholstered ottoman and a round coffee table with a mirrored top, creating a cozy and stylish seating arrangement. The fireplace, framed by a classic white mantel, features a herringbone-patterned firebox and a television mounted above, blending traditional charm with modern media needs. A large, patterned area rug in shades of red, blue, and cream defines the living space and adds warmth to the hardwood floors. Upon entering the great room, the view of the beautiful Minnehaha Creek can be seen in the banks of picture windows. The former great room was traditional and set with dark wood that our homeowners hoped to lighten. We softened everything by taking the existing fireplace out and creating a transitional great stone wall for both the modern simplistic fireplace and the TV. Two seamless bookcases were designed to blend in with all the woodwork on either end of the fireplace and give flexibly to display special and meaningful pieces from our homeowners’ travels. The transitional refreshment of colors and vibe in this room was finished with a bronze Markos flush mount light fixture. Susan Gilmore Photography
