dramatic curved roof above. The arced roof,
besides being sculpturally striking, was intentionally designed to use the largest dimension of SIP panels manufactured, eliminating waste and maximizing utility, and provided an armature for mounting solar panels in the optimal location on the heavily wooded site.

Land & Water DesignThis challenging site near Wolf Trap had an existing swimming pool at the end of the property. With twelve feet of grade change across the backyard, our landscape design dilemma was; how to connect the new pool with the house, create lots of living space, and still get people to the landscape below. The entire rear of the house was renovated, giving us an opportunity to build a new composite multi-level deck. We crafted a covered living space under the deck and sunroom. Techo-Bloc pavers, a stone dive rock at the deep end and the natural stream bed with waterfalls that cascades into the pool.

The Landscape ArtistThis unique home on edge of downtown Calgary is a longer term project we had the privilege to design and implement. We were involved early in the extensive renovation process to provide input on design elements and help resolve logistical issues on the site. Among the many elements in the garden a large water feature was desired, in part to help mask traffic noise, as well as numerous areas to entertain, relax, and explore.
Both large and dry-pack Rundlestone was utilized along with stamped concrete for much of the hardscaping. The slope was manipulated to construct the water feature which includes numerous falls, a stream, pond and bio-filter. Stucco walls were constructed on part of the property and river-stone walls were reconstructed to match the existing walls from the previous development. Extensive plantings throughout the grounds highlight and accent the hardscape and were designed for four seasons of interest.
DTV INSTALLATIONS LLCSome projects require mid-stream corrections once we’ve done our free on-site consultation and prepared a cost estimate, and Brian’s New York home theater installation was one of them. He had found us thanks to our recommendations and reviews on Angie’s List; after we put together a plan of action for his desired home theater and satellite TV/speaker installations, some changes had to be made due to suggestions and requests from his interior designer, as well as budget constraints.
The Firefly GardenThis illuminated 18 inch floral arrangement, reminiscent of gold nuggets shimmering at the bottom of a flowing stream, ushers in the Fall season and the warm, festive mood of the changing seasons. Glowing orange Chinese Lantern Flowers illuminate either a classic glass or modern metal lantern.
place architecture:designNestled in the woods, overlooking a small stream, this play structure takes advantage of the surrounding views and nature.
Built for the entire family’s outdoor enjoyment, the tree house comprises two 8′-0″ x 8′-0″ platforms that create two floors. The lower floor is accessed by a ramp and the upper floor by a wooden ladder. The structure is screened with bamboo shoots, placed in close proximity to one another on the front [driveway side] and spaced wider and wider apart as they wrap around the sides to the back [best view]. The bamboo skin was harvested on site for a sustainable and cost effective material solution.

Sloan Architects, P.C.Arriving at the other side of the bridge reveals another hidden gem, an approximately 17,000 sq. ft. pond. Although man made, it is thoughtfully designed and well integrated into the site as if it were part of the original landscape. Since its installation, it has become an inviting home to various species of wildlife - herons, frogs, other small birds and critters - a delight for the home owners.
Compositions of rocks and stones in the forms of water falls and babbling brooks are strategically placed and weaved in to preserve the natural setting of the property, along with careful selections and placements of native and water plants as part of the design, while the white oak boardwalk meanders along the periphery.

Vera Iconica ArchitectureLocated in the Shooting Star community at the base of Jackson Hole Resort, this site promotes both inward and outward connection. Designed around the Japanese concept of ‘Ma’ or ‘The Space Between,’ a series of small view courtyards are carved out of the massing, giving moments for pause and reflection as you move through your daily routine. We can see that the focal point of the room is the stone fireplace which is flanked on both sides by a 24"x 24" picture window with built in shelves below. To further enhance the symmetry of the room are 2 large windows with half moon tops giving architectural interest and allow for light to stream across the room.

To the east, the Taos valley is green and verdant fed by rivers and streams that run down from the mountains, and to the west the high sagebrush mesa stretches off to the distant Brazos range.
The house is sited to capture the high mountains to the northeast through the floor to ceiling height corner window off the kitchen/dining room.The main feature of this house is the central Atrium which is an 18 foot adobe octagon topped with a skylight to form an indoor courtyard complete with a fountain. Off of this central space are two offset squares, one to the east and one to the west. The bedrooms and mechanical room are on the west side and the kitchen, dining, living room and an office are on the east side.
The house is a straw bale/adobe hybrid, has custom hand dyed plaster throughout with Talavera Tile in the public spaces and Saltillo Tile in the bedrooms. There is a large kiva fireplace in the living room, and a smaller one occupies a corner in the Master Bedroom. The Master Bathroom is finished in white marble tile. The separate garage is connected to the house with a triangular, arched breezeway with a copper ceiling.
