PROGRAM: RESIDENTIAL
LOCATION: DUNKIRK ESTATE, SALT ROCK, SOUTH AFRICA
SIZE: 350m²
Located within Dunkirk Estate, this design maximises the potential of the small site. It minimises impact on the surrounding environment by reducing cut and fill. The building opens up to the north and south to maximise natural light and reduce solar heat gain.
All windows on the upper ground floor slide away to promote cross ventilation and promote indoor/outdoor living. The large expanse of Low-E glass captures views into the forest from both levels, whilst maintaining a good thermal performance
The rainwater collected from the 15000 litre harvesting system will be used to flush toilets and irrigate the landscaping. The indigenous green roof not only reduces heat gain in summer and heat loss in winter, it also serves to visually integrate the built environment with the natural surrounding vegetation. The interiors were designed by Moos Interior Architects.

PROGRAM: RESIDENTIAL
LOCATION: UMHLANGA, SOUTH AFRICA
SIZE: 430m²
BLOC ARCHITECTS & KEVIN LLOYED ARCHITECTS
This family home was designed for single storey, open plan living. The terraced gardens eliminate the need for obtrusive railings. The house has also been raised as high as possible to maximize the forest views. The interior design by Moos Interior Architects.

PROGRAM: RESIDENTIAL
LOCATION: 2 SHRIMP LANE, SALT ROCK, SOUTH AFRICA
SIZE: 420m²
Located on the beach along the North Coast. The design maximises the impressive views of the ocean. The design is a blend of modern and weathered beach house design. The materials where selected for their durability in this harsh coastal environment. The interior was designed by Moos Interior Architects.
The lodge was awarded 5 star status in 2011. It was featured in the SA Home Owner (September 2011) and Get It Magazine (October 2012)

PROGRAM: RESIDENTIAL
LOCATION: UMHLANGA, DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA
SIZE: 750m²
BLOC ARCHITECTS & KEVIN LLOYD ARCHITECTS
On a tight site this design strived to maximise the garden. We achieved this by making the green space the priority and designed the home around the ideal central courtyard.
This process created a form that opened up to the north sun and rotated the upper levels to face the sea views. The green band through the site has become a space that is forever changing, the sliding screens and roof create a room that can be manipulated by the weather.
