A charming 1920s colonial had a dated dark kitchen that was not in keeping with the historic charm of the home. The owners, who adored British design, wanted a kitchen that was spacious and storage friendly, with the feel of a classic English kitchen. Designer Sarah Robertson of Studio Dearborn helped her client, while architect Greg Lewis redesigned the home to accommodate a larger kitchen, new primary bath, mudroom, and butlers pantry.

Wide open style with fresh, modern details update the traditional Shaker Potters Mill Reverse Raised door to create a transitional style defined by shape, texture and materials. Discover the built-in appliances cleverly concealed behind the wood panels flanking the double-oven. Attention is centered on the organic beauty of the wood, drawing in the natural light and bringing the outdoors in to this living space. Ask your designer about how to use decorative aluminum feet, glass surfaces, and multiple workspace levels to transform an ordinary kitchen island into a center for conversing and entertaining.
Open floating shelves and a built-in desk space make easy work of organized living. Potters Mill Reverse Raised built-in entertainment center may wrap the television in smart storage, but when combined with modern light fixtures, glass tile and natural wood cabinetry, the effect is a flowing space for entertaining in a updated transitional style.

This powder room is part of our "British Colonial Meets Modern Beach House" project. A unexpected blend of aristocratic elegance, coastal ease, glamour, and a touch of whimsy. As with every cabinet throughout the home, the vanity was custom designed specifically for this space, creating a one-of-a-kind focal point. To amplify the drama, we enveloped the room in a richly patterned gold and turquoise paisley wallcovering accented with hand painted gold paper on the ceiling, creating a jewel-box effect. The bold black-and-white checkerboard floor introduces a playful sense of movement, while crystal-beaded sconces adorned with black shades add a layer of old-world sophistication. A luxurious white marble countertop brings timeless elegance, beautifully complemented by an ornate gilded mirror reminiscent of a grand European estate.
The result is a powder room that feels both refined and unexpected—where classic aristocratic influences meet the relaxed spirit of a modern beach house, proving that even the smallest room can make a memorable statement.

The WATER element was added with the swirling pattern of the stone panel placed over the desk. Four recessed light fixtures installed within the built-in desk area not only to highlight the stone pattern with a graze of light, but to functionally illuminate the work area.
