With televisions becoming considerably larger and displayed in more prominent places, many solutions for hiding, concealing and otherwise disguising this modern box have multiplied. While that’s one approach, hiding a TV does nothing for a room’s style in and of itself, and let’s face it, the idea is (at some point at least) to see it. Our home owners wanted a TV as well as an attractive clean and modern statement for there family room.

Building this family room was a really fun project. The featured wall is covered in shimmery bronze wallpaper that surrounds a fireplace highlighted with Pineapple Onyx tile. The Onyx tiles are back lit with LED strip lighting. Above the fireplace are an LED television and a grouping of decorative deer heads painted white with black antlers. Flanking the deer are decorative panels painted in a neutral accent color. The flooring is hand-scraped oak leading to a wall of doors and windows overlooking the back yard.

A TV Backlight from Inspired LED can reduce eye strain by providing bias lighting in the form of easy to install adhesive backed LED Light Strip. Bias lighting serves to moderate or bias the range of motion in the iris muscles in the eye, which limits the size of the pupil. The frequent and sometimes dramatic variation in picture brightness from scene to scene in video programs can cause eyestrain and fatigue in an otherwise dark display environment. Our TV Backlight will provide enough light for your eyes to get their color reference, and you’ll find that pictures seem a little crisper and colors more vivid.

The 364 square foot lower level of this historic row house in Georgetown is intended to be an urban retreat for an eternal bachelor. The overall goal was to create a sanctuary of modern living: efficient, clean, and minimal. One of the greatest challenges was to fit a large amount of program into the narrow 14' width, including kitchen, powder room, sitting space, mechanical area, and washer / dryer, while maintaining as much open floor area as possible. The other challenge was to create an effect of light and openness, within what had previously been a dark and uninviting basement.
Design Strategy
Two storage volumes define either side of the space: along one edge glossy white kitchen cabinets line the wall, terminating in a cantilevered wine bar, and along the opposite edge a series of sliding doors conceal the more functional aspects of program: powder room, mechanical units, and washer-dryer. The existing chimney along this wall was retrofitted to accommodate the television and custom cabinetry, including additional wine storage below. These two linear volumes serve to frame the space, while glass planes traverse at each end. A sliding wall of backlit translucent panels hides the existing basement windows along the street façade, and a folding glass wall opens onto the rear garden, The result is a light, airy space that visually expands from interior to exterior.

The homeowner of this beautiful new home in Parker, Colorado wanted to bring a personalize flare with reverence to their Christian faith into their home. R2S designers and structural engineering partner set out to first structurally enhance the load-bearing wall and floor with three micro LAM beams in the basement joists to support more than 1,000 lbs of added weight to the proposed faux chimney. The decorative chimney would include new framing, sheathing and tile that would add more than 1,000 lbs. of weight to the wall/floor. Never a company to take risks, R2S employed the assistance of certified engineers at Infinity Consulting Group in Denver. ICG drafted a certified plan to added support underneath the proposed structure and R2S successfully built and certified the planned support.
From their we set out to realize the homeowner's dream which resulted in the exquisitely planned and finished custom work you see in this photo. The decorative beams (5), custom backlit crucifix , television, chandeliers and electronic fireplace were all part of the project; as was finishing floor trim and paint.
The homeowner was thrilled with the finished project and they have since received rave reviews from family and friends for the enhancements we made to their home.
