The steel exo-skeleton cradles a floating radiant concrete floor platform. A shallow sloped exposed timber-framed roof structure serves as a metaphorical forest canopy umbrella and optimally orients the photovoltaic solar panel system to the southwest. A continuous clerestory wraps all sides of the house, bathing the interior spaces in natural light and providing serendipitous views into the treetops from within. photo credit: Ben Benschneider

Directional accent lighting at each of the columns simultaneously emblazons the brick details and illuminates the outdoor room. A wood burning fire pit centered on the patio provides ambiance and warmth as the temperatures dip on cool summer nights.

Design inspiration for this wine cellar came from a statement made by the homeowner, “I don’t like sitting in a cold room drinking wine.” by designing a room within a room, we were able to contain the temperature controlled wine space using floor to ceiling glass panels while still allowing full view for the beautiful custom built white oak cabinetry from the tasting area. LED accent light and decorative stone tile is stylishly integrated within the cabinetry resulting in a truly unique wine cellar.
