Inspiration for a timeless bedroom remodel in Indianapolis

This stunning kitchen remodel by Performance Kitchens & Home features a crisp white palette accented beautifully by bold blue elements for a truly interesting and custom combination. The scope of the project involved opening up the old space and strategically changing some of the doors and windows to maximize natural light and enhance the open-concept flow. The eye is immediately drawn to the dramatic blue tile backsplash and the contrasting deep blue finish of the oversized central island. Aging gracefully...in your home. We asked Senior Designer, and Certified Aging in Place Specialist, Genie Nowicki about key ideas for bathroom design that include Aging/ Living in Place. (Universal Design) Here are just a few of her suggestions! 1. Comfort Height Toilets (perhaps wall-hung). 2. Curb-less/walk-in showers 3. Hand-held shower heads on a bar for use at varying heights 4. Wall-hung sinks to allow seated use 5. Motion activated faucets 6. Grab Bars and Towel Bars at comfortable heights 7. Storage with easy access features, such as roll-outs. 8. Electrical outlets in drawers for convenience 9. Bidet accessories (“washlets”) on toilets for personal hygiene. The way one chooses to maintain one's garden is an important element of design. One option is to leave intact last year's growth on warm-season grasses for their sculptural quality. We love how the native Meadow Petunia fills in all the gaps, while the Black Eyed Susans provide bright and bold contrast to the mix. We call these gardens "living landscapes" because the native plants they contain seed off and change locations from year to year in a dynamic, dramatic show. The gardener becomes audience, director, and dramaturge--all in one--rather than one who tightly controls the results. (What is a dramaturge, one might ask if their friends are not in the theater?) Oxford languages explains: "1. a dramatist. 2. a literary editor on the staff of a theater who consults with authors and edits texts." In living landscapes, the native plants become a sort of text which the gardener edits in order to shape the unfolding drama for the current and next season. The gardener chooses where to pull back overly assertive plants, when to nudge forward the under-confident actor waiting to shine, when to let the mystery unfold and surprise. It is not laissez-faire or "what will be will be"--rather, it is an ongoing movement rooted in observation and reflection. This is the living landscape we strive to design and build at The Natural Garden.

Inspiration for a contemporary bathroom remodel in Houston

The client wanted this house to be designed similar to the model home that they saw. When I walked into their home for the first time, after speaking with them, I knew exactly what their design needs were. They wanted to keep the paint color but everything else was free game. I wanted each room to have its own personality without competing against each other. This room is the guest bedroom, so I wanted it to be tranquil and inviting. I used a simple beige headboard with nailheads. The side tables is made of metal and complemented the bed so well. I chose to use crystal lamps because of the beautiful accent wall behind the bed. I used off white drapery panels, with a bronze finish drapery rod. The room was not large enough to fit a dresser so I wanted to add a mirror that makes a statement. The rug has a gray background with an ivory texted pattern, it just pulled everything together. The bedding is a mixture of textures, patterns and neutrals. Last but not least, I brought this piece of art in that just completes the room.
