ASID Design Excellence First Place Residential – Kitchen and Bathroom: Michael Merrill Design Studio was approached three years ago by the homeowner to redesign her kitchen. Although she was dissatisfied with some aspects of her home, she still loved it dearly. As we discovered her passion for design, we began to rework her entire home--room by room, top to bottom.

A special LEICHT Westchester | Greenwich project. Located in Chappaqua, Westchester County, NY. this beautiful project was done in two phases, guest house first and then the main house. In the main house, we did the kitchen and butler pantry, living area and bar, laundry room; master bathroom and master closet, three bathrooms. In the guest house, we did the kitchen and bar; laundry; guest bath and master bath. All LEICHT. All cabinetry is "CARRE FS" in Frosty White finish color and the wood you see is all TOPOS in walnut color. 2 kitchens 7 bathrooms Laundry room Closet Pantry We enjoyed every step of the way working on this project. The master bathroom footprint was expanded to allow for a large soaking tub, separate vanities with storage and deeper shower. An adjacent walk-in closet leads into the master bedroom. Hexagon charcoal floor tile, gray shaker cabinetry are complemented with the 3 dimensional decorative wall tile and clean large format subway wall tub surround. The shower floor is an elongated white hexagon.

Inspiration for a mid-sized contemporary master white tile and ceramic tile concrete floor freestanding bathtub remodel in Seattle with a vessel sink, white cabinets, a wall-mount toilet, white walls, flat-panel cabinets and gray countertops

This Master Bathroom was created with light, ambiance and functionality in mind. The basketweave marble tile flooring is a classic tile bordered in a white thassos rectangular tile. The Thassos Beveled Brick is used for the tall wainscoting and shower walls with two rows of a thin grey tile accent. The dark wood tone of the cabinet and face of the tub create a rich offset to the carrara marble countertop and tub top. The vaulted ceiling helps to create the light open feeling. The Horchow Mirrored Vanity is the focal point of the bathroom as it it perfectly centered underneath the window, boxed ridge beam, three crystal pendants and double door opening into the bathroom. The sink cabinet was designed to look like a furniture piece with the custom feet at the toekick, pop out of the middle area and crystal hardware.

Our client said she was surprised to find the third bathroom, her son’s, has turned out to be her favorite. Perhaps it’s the subtle but captivating herringbone tile pattern in the shower, the contrasting granite countertop, or the charcoal hex tile floor that makes it so appealing. The kids bathroom tub enclosure was clad with a large format 3 dimensional white tile accented with a blue glass mosaic in the shower niche. The navy patterned floor tile completes the room.

The second powder room in this home features a floating vanity and integrated sink composed of polished Smokey Black Vein Cut slabs. The accent wall was meant to create a dramatic, masculine feel which was accomplished by using a brushed metal three-dimensional mosaic. Sherpa Brown marble filed tile was used for the flooring to compliment the overall design.

The original structure at Yankee Point was a simple 1970s home with “good bones.” Unfortunately, it was also a case where less-than-poetic considerations threatened to eclipse design. Setbacks, height and footprint restrictions and other building regulations had boxed in the renovation to the point where there was literally nowhere left to build. Fortunately, the house sat 6' above grade on the ocean side. With some three-dimensional ingenuity, this ultimately provided ample space to add a new full height lower level without exceeding stringent lot coverage limitations. Today, upon entering the residence, you catch a quick glimpse of the ocean views and of the cascading roof lines designed to echo the motions of ocean waves beyond. The space opens up as you move toward the ocean to reveal a panoramic view.
