Mary’s floor-through apartment was truly enchanting . . . except for the tiny kitchen she’d inherited. It lacked a dishwasher, counter space or any real storage, items that have all been addressed in the makeover. Now the kitchen is as cheerful and bright as the rest of the home.

A tiny kitchen that was redone with what we all wish for storage, storage and more storage. The design dilemma was how to incorporate the existing flooring and wallpaper the client wanted to preserve. The kitchen is a combo of both traditional and transitional element thus becoming a neat eclectic kitchen. The wood finish cabinets are natural Alder wood with a clear finish while the main portion of the kitchen is a fantastic olive-green finish. for a cleaner look the countertop quartz has been used for the backsplash as well. This way no busy grout lines are present to make the kitchen feel heavier and busy.

Acacia finished off this tiny kitchen build by building a continuous concrete countertop that was formed in place with a beveled edge. The entire countertop is one piece with no seams thanks to the pour-in-place process.

Inspiration for a timeless kitchen remodel in Chicago

R.B. Schwarz's client did not want to remove a wall but stay within the 10x11 ft. kitchen footprint in order to preserve the authenticity of the 1930's home. Custom cabinetry allowed for extra storage to be designed into this tiny kitchen.
