It wasn't in the budget to gut this kitchen and start from scratch. So, we removed their upper cabinets and installed solid would shelves with lights to illuminate the new "Silver Pearl" granite. We stained and wire brushed wood planks and installed them horizontally on the island to give it a fresh new look. Removing the dated wallpaper and giving the place a fresh coat of paint made all the difference in the world.

The horse is hand painted on finished wooden ply. The subtle chaos of the almost monochrome jalli and the bold simplicity of the horse compliment each other well.

Inspiration for a contemporary kitchen remodel in DC Metro

When asked what they envisioned for their living and dining room Tweak, the clients responded with “colorful WOW factor”, so we gave it to them! We utilized the baby grand piano that was already in the space and took cues from the rest of the home when deciding on the decor. The home itself is decorated with strong pastel colors like deep aqua/blues, lavender, and pink colors so we chose to go bold! Moving the piano toward the center of the living room and hanging a 60" chandelier over top, cranked up the bold factor. We chose hot pink, lime green, and blue for accent colors that perfectly tied the pre-existing decor together, while still allowing the space to retain its classic black and white style. Choosing large scaled items like the massive chandelier, art, and the beautiful gold mirror in the dining room, gave drama to the spaces giving our homeowner's the WOW factor they were looking for.

This fun & quirky space was just waiting for a Tweak! The home was built in 1939 so naturally it poses some challenges in regards to laying out furniture. The front door sits smack dab in the middle of the room, dividing the space in two. This family of five needed a larger living room and couldn't figure out how to balance the space. We created lines for the eye to follow that would open this home up and really showcase the amazing African artifacts hidden throughout. The husband is an avid collector of Sub-Saharan art and we used his passion as inspiration for the decor. A historic home and ancient artifacts? We needed to throw in a modern twist to get this home up-to-date. We incorporated pops of color and fun, bold prints to bring out the home's wild side. A houndstooth rug and new display case did just the trick. The wife prefers midcentury modern decor so we incorporated a fun lamp and these awesome lounge chairs from Houzz to incorporate her style into the space.

Using items from their traditional style, and coastal decor homes, we stylized these spaces to create what we’re calling a “Sophisticated Coastal” style. We used Sand colored Belgian Linen fabrics, mixed in accents from the sea, combining them with the homeowners extensive art collection and new lighting to give these spaces a more relaxed, but sophisticated feel.
