This home is beautifully situated on the shore of Lake Michigan. Originally built as a cabin a hundred years ago, the home had undergone prior additions and modifications. The design challenge was to add a guest suite over the garage without changing the unimposing, charming front elevation. The entire home was gutted inside and the layout significantly modified. The interior styling is uniquely modern with an underpinning of cottage lake home feel and of course huge panorama lake view windows.

Drawing inspiration from the home’s natural setting and the owners’ devotion to a cleaner environement, we chose reclaimed heart pine from one hundred year old beams for the floors, reclaimed elm for privacy areas, motorized window shades of woven grasses, fossil stone countertops, and cherry wood in clear finishes cut from the same trees. These materials were used in unique ways throughout the home to make a true model of sustainability.Photography: David Lauer

This was a unique project; our client owned a condominium with almost 360 degree views of the city and lake. With twelve foot ceilings they wanted to create the most dramatic ceilings possible in their living room and bedroom. We built a metal framed soffit in the living room with recessed lighting and rgb LED accent lights. In the master bedroom we recreated a star lit sky scene, hanging a pre cast fiberglass dome with steel cables from the ceiling and installing hundreds of LED pin lights. We then painted the fiberglass a dark blue. nina leone
