Inspiration for a modern u-shaped light wood floor open concept kitchen remodel in Minneapolis with an undermount sink, flat-panel cabinets, white cabinets, solid surface countertops, gray backsplash, stainless steel appliances, white walls and an island

The existing landscape of this Queen Anne backyard contained a series of cramped, disconnected spaces on multiple levels with little space to spread out or entertain. We designed a new deck that allows a smooth flow from the adjacent kitchen to this generous and flexible outdoor space. Built-in bench seating, centered around a gas firepit, maximizes space and incorporates storage while integrated planters define the space into distinct but connected outdoor rooms. A lower platform provides ample space for grilling and an integrated stair connects the deck to the adjacent garage. We chose two shades of gray composite for the deck surface, a neutral palette that allows the vibrant planting scheme to pop. Photography by Miranda Estes.

Positioned to provide access from all areas of the home, this sleek kitchen emphasizes specialty work zones, with a highly functioning triangle existing between refrigerator, prep, and cooking areas. A Thermador appliance package includes a 36” induction cooktop, steam oven, warming drawer, conventional oven, and double-door builit-in refrigerator. Installed in the island are integrated appliances such as a drawer microwave, dishwasher and a U-line wine cooling unit with dual controls. The island sink has a touchless faucet and garbage disposal system. Contrasting cabinet colors and the use of two different countertop surfaces are melded together with a vibrant coordinating tile backsplash. Hand painted outlets are hidden in plain sight in the backsplash. LED lighting in the upper and lower cabinets are accented by pendant lights over the island. Additional ceiling RAB LED lighting can be adjusted per mood and occasion. Disappearing sliding doors surround the kitchen carrying the sense of the outside throughout the interior.

This moody and luxurious powder bath is the epitome of elegance and drama. The walls are covered in Phillip Jeffries Soho Hemp in Black White, providing a textured, organic backdrop that perfectly complements the high-end finishes. The Cambria Blackbrook countertop adds a bold, black marble-like touch with striking white veining, setting the stage for the stunning Kraus gold glass vessel sink. Above the sink, a Kohler Vibrant Brushed Moderne Brass wall-mounted faucet pairs beautifully with the sink, adding warmth and sophistication. The powder bath is illuminated by Cyril Decorative Sconce Lights from Crate and Barrel, casting a soft glow on the arched mirror, enhancing the bath’s moody, luxurious ambiance. The combination of gold accents, rich textures, and dramatic black surfaces makes this a statement space that exudes opulence and refined taste.

It’s amazing what the right paint and a pop of a color will do in a space. We created a family-friendly space that can be enjoyed by both the parents and kiddos! The bar stools were a kitchen industrial source and powder coated with a vibrant orange to add a splash to the space. Chalk Board paint creates a kid-friendly space in the kitchen.
