A basement area with zone audio. The zone audio system extends to the entire home, and is capable of tuning to a variety of sources, including AM and FM radio, satellite and internet radio, any video source (satellite, DVD/Blu-Ray, network attached storage/NAS media, device-streamed video, etc.), as well as audio discs, MP3 players, notebook computers, network-attached media players, and handheld devices (smartphones/tablets) via streaming services. The television pictured is connected to the home's hub of smart technology, and is capable of receiving satellite programming, streaming audio/video via tablets and smartphones throughout the home, DVD/Blu-Ray movies shared throughout the home, as well as media and content stored on the home's network via network attached storage (NAS). Sound is managed through the TV itself, or via the zone audio system, with local speakers located in the ceiling throughout the home, and pictured here. This home is controlled by a Control 4 home automation system, providing complete cinema, lighting, source, and audio control from tablets and smartphones throughout the home. This is a project completed some time back that shows an uncommonly creative approach to hiding some audiophile bookshelf speakers inside an attractive TV console. We worked with the cabinet designer to come up with discreet horizontal, speaker cloth enclosures, righ and left, to hide these audio gems. Inside the cabinet are all the Audio/Video/Internet Equipment with the Radio Frequency Remote allowing equipment to be operated with doors closed. Nothing cutting edge, just a clean, understated presentation. The moral of the story don't let cookie cutter approaches to cabinetry constrain your possibilities.

This room is the Media Room in the 2016 Junior League Shophouse. This space is intended for a family meeting space where a multi generation family could gather. The idea is that the kids could be playing video games while their grandparents are relaxing and reading the paper by the fire and their parents could be enjoying a cup of coffee while skimming their emails. Scott Fincher. It started with a common complaint and in phases became a signature solution reflecting Digital Home Technologies motto: “We manage your most valuable asset – your free time.” You know the feeling. You reach for your audio/video remote control and immediately experience button aggravation or, worse, malfunctioning. This is what frustrated a Northwest suburban homeowner and his family. The remote was their enemy. It had turned music or video fun into a struggle. The solution: Installation of ELAN g!, the innovative, award-winning multiroom audio/video and home control system. ELAN seamlessly combines music, TV and telephone-based features such as intercom and paging to create a new kind of whole-house entertainment and communications experience. The system and its simple interface allow people to move room-to-room, controlling and accessing centrally located audio and video equipment with ease. And that is done with the touch of a finger on a smart phone, tablet or dedicated remote. No more hassle, but, wait, the story doesn’t end. The beauty of ELAN g! is that you can start with one solution and expand into others without draining your pocketbook. So impressed was the homeowner that a week after the initial installation, which included a system adding Internet music streaming and iTunes organization, he inquired about some of the other features of ELAN like controlling lighting and interior climate. The family travels a lot, and he wanted to be able to adjust the house from anywhere in the world. Simple. Phase 2 done. Phase 3: Because of the travelling, he had concerns about security of the home. Simple again – Digital Home added a camera and a digital recorder, ensuring peace of mind. What had started as a one-room remote turned this residence into a smart home over the course of two months. ELAN g! and Digital Home Technologies, partners in making life easy. Built in 1969 with only one previous owner, this quaint Cape house needed a full renovation. We took the opportunity to wire for both the client’s current and future needs. Ultra-high bandwidth cabling throughout the house allows for the next internet speed bump over 1 gigabit. The owners are self-described “recovering audiophiles,” so the speaker and equipment selection required a high-end solution to achieve this sound quality throughout 18 zones of indoor and outdoor audio. In addition, a lighting control system with close to 40 keypad locations strategically placed throughout the house was designed to let them control multiple lights from anywhere in the house, as well as to automate routine lighting scenes. In the family room, a surround sound setup complemented a 77-inch OLED TV wrapped in a custom black walnut frame to conceal the TV. Several custom programmed iPads are located in rooms with TVs, as well as a master control in the kitchen. Lastly, smart thermostats, video doorbells, smart door locks, 11 high-resolution cameras, and a smart water leak protection system allow the owners to monitor the house whether they are home or away.
