This client brought me a catalog featuring entertainment furniture and asked if we could do something similar with built-in cabinetry customized to their needs. I replied in the positive and asked what their specific needs were -- what electronic components did they want, what would be stored here, did they want any open shelves for display or books, etc? Using primarily inset style cabinetry we created a built-in wall unit that includes storage drawers (for both their video library and for the grandkids toys and games), open shelves and display cabinets. Centrally we have the TV, video and audio equipment (infrared remotes necessitated the glass doors), and additional storage -- we used frame-less construction cabinets here to gain usable space inside the base unit. Without the space for a traditional Home Theater, they wanted a theater quality experience in the living room. They were concerned that too much hardware (cable boxes, speakers, TV stand, etc.) would intrude on their living space. So, we installed an Invisible Surround Sound System, specifically designed to blend in with drywall (You can even paint or wallpaper over it), and recessed the Smart TV so the screen is flush with the wall. Located in the Central District, this project started as a client's "DIY nightmare." Like many, the homeowner watched online "IKEA Hack" videos and thought, "I can do this for cheap." The Reality Check: They bought a room full of flat-pack boxes only to realize that YouTube videos don't teach you how to handle sloped ceilings and uneven walls. They wasted money on the wrong materials and couldn't finish the install. The Sai Remodeling Solution: We stepped in to rescue the space. Re-Design: We re-evaluated the storage needs and redesigned the layout to fit the specific roof pitch. Hybrid Materials: A true "IKEA Hack" isn't just IKEA parts. We sourced custom hardware and lumber that you can't find at the big-box store to ensure structural integrity. Custom Scribing: We precisely fitted the cabinets into the knee wall, creating a seamless, built-in look that no handyman could achieve with standard instructions. Result: A fully functional, high-end toy storage system that maximizes every inch of the attic.

A rare find in Bloomfield Township is new construction. This gem of a custom home not only featured a modern, open floorplan with great flow, it also had an 1,800 sq. ft. unfinished basement. When the homeowners of this beautiful house approached MainStreet Design Build, they understood the value of renovating the accessible, non-livable space—and recognized its unlimited potential. Their vision for their 1,800 sq. ft. finished basement included a lighter, brighter teen entertainment area—a space large enough for pool, ping pong, shuffle board and darts. It was also important to create an area for food and drink that did not look or feel like a bar. Although the basement was completely unfinished, it presented design challenges due to the angled location of the stairwell and existing plumbing. After 4 months of construction, MainStreet Design Build delivered—in spades! Details of this project include a beautiful modern fireplace wall with Peau de Beton concrete paneled tile surround and an oversized limestone mantel and hearth. Clearly a statement piece, this wall also features a Boulevard 60-inch Contemporary Vent-Free Linear Fireplace with reflective glass liner and crushed glass. Opposite the fireplace wall, is a beautiful custom room divider with bar stool seating that separates the living room space from the gaming area. Effectively blending this room in an open floorplan, MainStreet Design Build used Country Oak Wood Plank Vinyl flooring and painted the walls in a Benjamin Moore eggshell finish. The Kitchenette was designed using Dynasty semi-custom cabinetry, specifically a Renner door style with a Battleship Opaque finish; Top Knobs hardware in a brushed satin nickel finish; and beautiful Caesarstone Symphony Grey Quartz countertops. Tastefully coordinated with the rest of the décor is a modern Filament Chandelier in a bronze finish from Restoration Hardware, hung perfectly above the kitchenette table. A new ½ bath was tucked near the stairwell and designed using the same custom cabinetry and countertops as the kitchenette. It was finished in bold blue/gray paint and topped with Symphony Gray Caesarstone. Beautiful 3×12” Elemental Ice glass subway tile and stainless steel wall shelves adorn the back wall creating the illusion of light. As you can see, we combined various custom wine cellar racks to create a unique California wine storage and display area. Specifically, individual bottle racking, high reveal display racks, lattice diamond bin racks, a quarter round display rack, horizontal display racks, and an arch display were utilized. Together, the racks create a space that is both highly functional, and aesthetically appealing: the perfect wine cellar. We utilized Premium Redwood for the wine racks. Since this type of wood is naturally beautiful, we did not apply any type of finish on the racks. We used LED lighting system to keep the wines safe while creating a dramatic display.
