The master suite pulls from this dark bronze pallet. A custom stain was created from the exterior. The exterior mossy bronze-green on the window sashes and shutters was the inspiration for the stain. The walls and ceilings are planks and then for a calming and soothing effect, custom window treatments that are in a dark bronze velvet were added. In the master bath, it feels like an enclosed sleeping porch, The vanity is placed in front of the windows so there is a view out to the lake when getting ready each morning. Custom brass framed mirrors hang over the windows. The vanity is an updated design with random width and depth planks. The hardware is brass and bone. The countertop is lagos azul limestone.

These custom wine racks in California were crafted from Premium Redwood. This type of wood is durable, highly resistant to warping, and can withstand humid conditions. This is because the Redwood tree grows along the California and Oregon coasts, where temperatures are low and rain/mist are everyday things. The tree developed a natural tolerance of and resilience to such things. Premium Redwood also increases in beauty when left unfinished (like these racks were). David Woo Designs The end of the peninsula was particularly challenging. The cabinet manufacturer originally provided two false doors to accommodate the step down from the kitchen to the family room. However, we didn't want the confusing look this gave and opted for a one piece slab panel custom made with solid wood edges and a cherry laminated MDF core. This ensures the large panel will not warp. This clean finish to the end of the peninsula is a modern look. The flooring is solid red oak hardwood and beautifully contrasts the cherry cabinets. Unseen to the eye is the plug strip with 6 outlets that runs the entire end of the peninsula. The black quartz counter was extended past the end of the peninsula by 1 3/4" and completely conceals the plug strip. There are 6 plugs at the end of the peninsula, exceeding code requirements and none disturb the clean modern look.

Cottage walls and ceilings are particularly challenging as changing temperature and humidity are incompatible with drywall or plaster. The most common solution is the type of wood laminate panelling seen on the walls here, but there is another solution, and that's stretch ceiling, seen on the ceiling here. Completely impervious to moisture and able to withstand any temperature extremes that North American weather can bring in the absence of climate control, stretch ceiling can be printed with any high resolution image, like the butterflies and flowers image that we printed on this ceiling. It will never fade, peel, bubble, discolour, need repainting, warp, or grow mould or mildew.

Inspiration for a timeless dining room remodel in Providence

This beautiful Tudor house built in 1923 made a classic statement on a street in Glendale, California. The living room and dining room were just what you would expect with oak floors, crown molding and leaded glass windows. Then you walk through the door from the dining room into the kitchen and a time warp took you to a 1950’s kitchen with metal cabinets and a triangular cooktop peninsula. How do I change the kitchen to make it part of the house and add functions that every cook wants? The homeowners agreed that we needed to remove everything down to the studs and start fresh. We removed all the cabinets, soffit, ceiling and floor. Due to termite damage, the 2 windows and all the framing on the east wall was replaced. I presented two plans to the homeowners and we finalized one. We moved the sink from the diagonal corner and centered it under the smaller window. JRY & Co.
